When Square Enix re-releases RPG games, they often tread a fine line between creating thoughtful remakes or hatred-inspiring rehashes. I'm happy to report that Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, a PS2 port of a GBA game, falls in the former category-it's a worthy addition to the much beloved franchise as well as a compelling choice for diehard fans as it sheds some much needed light on events from past entries in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Series noobs, however, might find themselves a little lost in the intricate plot that Kingdom Hearts has spawned thus far.

For all of the differences Disney and Square Enix must have while developing their Final Fantasy/Mickey Mouse mashup franchise, at least they can agree on something: Rereleases are so much easier than sequels. Thus, instead of a proper sequel (hell, even the two new portable Kingdom Hearts titles coming out next year aren’t true sequels), we get Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories -- a 3D remake of a Game Boy Advance game from 2004. But even when faced with a simple retread, I admit it: I’m a total sucker for anything Kingdom Hearts. So while my mind says, "You’re an idiot for replaying a 5-year-old game," my heart says, "You’re an idiot for drooling over yet another game that combines Final Fantasy and Disney together, but, hey, that’s why I love you, you big goof.

Recently announced that Dragon Quest X to the Wii and PS3 or not the Xbox 360. De meeste onder ons zullen zich niet interesseren in de Dragon Quest games, maar als je weet dat deze serie nog populairder is dan Final Fantasy in het Verre Oosten dan mag je er zeker van zijn dat deze game invloed zal hebben op de rest van de RPG industrie.
