BlueAnt’s newest headset, the V1, is a pretty unique Bluetooth headset. The feature set is almost exactly the same as BlueAnt’s z9i Bluetooth headset with one major difference. The V1 is the only Bluetooth headset I could find that allows the headset to almost completely be controlled by voice commands.

A Bluetooth headset can set you free. When paired with a compatible cell phone, a Bluetooth headset allows you to make calls without having to hold the phone in your hand. And Bluetooth headsets are more than just a convenience--in some places, using one is the law. It may be illegal for you to use your cell phone without a headset while driving.

Altec Lansing recently introduced its BackBeat 903/6 Bluetooth headset at the currently ongoing Macworld Expo and will also display them at the CES show later this week. The headset, developed with cooperation from Bluetooth earpiece maker Plantronics, stays in place thanks to the use of both ear canal-sealing ear buds and ear hooks. Plantronics' dual-mic AudioIQ technology is incorporated into the headset to increase call quality and raise call volume depending on ambient noise levels.

Bluetooth headsets have always caused mixed emotions with me. I love the freedom that they allow (I detest wires) but for the most part it seems that you have to use them with that token grain of salt. People tell you "I can hear you ok, but I can tell that you are on a headset." And let's not even start with the volume issues that can plague them. Palm's Series 3 Bluetooth Headset offers an affordable but formidable choice in the headset arena and is definitely worth a try for any Treo or Centro user that uses the Athena power cord.

The Cardo S-800 Bluetooth headset definitely has its own look, that much is true. This blocky, two-toned headset actually looks quite nice and modern, and it's incredibly lightweight. The larger backend of the S-800 is silver, while the smaller front portion is clad in a smoky blue color that is pleasing to the eye. The S-800 arrived with an AC power cord, a functional neck strap, and a handy USB charging cable. The neck strap has a special clip on the end that you can attach the S-800 to, but I'd be lying if I told you I used this accessory.

Today for review I've got a rather unusual looking and named BT headset, the Dragon V2 from Callpod. It's got an excellent feature set including 100 meter range, walkie-talkie abilities and dual pairing, along with a nice assortment of accessories included. The Dragon V2 is a Bluetooth headset that takes some getting accustomed to for not only fit but usability as well, once you get past the initial period of ownership though you'll find out the Dragon V2 is not a bad product overall.

Hands-free devices for cell phones are not created equal, but Motorola’s Motopure H15, a Bluetooth top-of-the-line headset, is outstanding. For drivers anywhere a hands-free solution is a must, and in some states it’s against the law to hold a phone up to the ear while driving.

When it comes to a Bluetooth headset, users want it all: fabulous call quality, a comfortable fit, an intuitive button arrangement, and a stylish look--not to mention a great price. Unfortunately, that's a tough order to fill. We looked at ten headsets across a range of prices and designs, and we found that you can get many of those things, but only if you're willing to pay top dollar for your Bluetooth headset. And even if you cough up US$100 or more, you may find that your chosen model has some drawbacks, depending on your fit preferences and usage habits.

"1. Poor Bluetooth Management: When attempting to pair the G1 with the nav-system in my car while I had the currently paired Motorola headset in my pocket, the G1 refused to let go of the headset and pair-up with the nav-system which had been previously paired-up. I nearly wrecked my car about three times while trying to get it to accept this simple, obvious command. Bluetooth pairing with devices to which the G1 has already been paired (i.e., the access code has already been given and it has been told to remember the pairing) ought to be a simple matter of touching the device to be paired on the screen. This is a major problem that ought to be resolved by the folks at Google, or HTC, or T-Moble."
