New Delhi, Dec 25, 2008: Indian govt. has tightened screws on the increasing use of Chinese phones in the country. Most Chinese phones do not support IMEI and are a security hazards.

Seylan Bank has a new chairman in E. Narangoda after the Central Bank yesterday (Dec. 29th) bailed out the private banking institution caught up in the financial crisis facing Golden Key Credit Card Company of Ceylinco Consolidated. The CB handed over to Bank of Ceylon the management of Seylan Bank under Article 30 (1) of Monetary Laws Act no. 58 of 1949.

The Indian government has deferred 3G spectrum auction to 30 January from 16 January 2009 previously, writes The Economic Times. The 3G spectrum applications will be invited between 9-15 January. The Department of Telecom will announce the ownership details of the 3G applicants on 16 January and bidder ownership compliance certificate for the 3G auction will be given on 20 January. The DoT will shortlist pre-qualified bidders for the 3G spectrum auction on 22 January, while the mock auction will take place between 27-28 January. The auction date has been postponed due to large number of requests from 3G bidders, according to an internal memo of the telecommunication secretary.
