Intel Joins Gigabyte, Chunghwa to Launch Linux MID

IconIntel joined Taiwanese mobile phone service provider Chunghwa Telecom to launch Gigabyte Technology's M528 mobile Internet device on Monday in Taipei. The device, which runs a Linux OS, sports a 4.8-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keypad and 4GB solid-state drive, has an 800Mhz Intel Atom Z500 microprocessor inside. Wal-Mart Stores began selling Apple Inc's iPhone on Sunday (Dec. 28), but the popular cell phones that can surf the Web are not priced as low as some anticipated, Reuters reports. Wal-Mart is selling the black 8-gigabyte iPhone 3G model, which also holds about 2,000 songs, for $197. The 16-gigabyte model, in black or white, is priced at $297. All of the phones require a new two-year service agreement from AT&T Inc or a qualified upgrade, Wal-Mart said. NEW YORK: US retail giant Wal-Mart will start selling Apple’s iPhone 3G tomorrow in stores across the United States, the company said, but not at the big discount which many had been anticipating. Wal-Mart said a black eight-gigabyte iPhone 3G with a two-year service plan from AT&T will cost $197 — just $2 off the usual price. The black or white 16-gigabyte model will cost $297 with a two-year AT&T service agreement. The popular phone will be available at nearly 2,500 stores beginning tomorrow, the Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said. “We are delighted to bring customers this ground-breaking mobile technology,” said Gary Severson, Wal-Mart’s senior vice president, entertainment. “Our electronics associates have been preparing for many weeks for the arrival of iPhone 3G,” he said.

The Elegant iPod Touch

It's a wonderful video player and Web browser, despite certain limitations. Most important, it's beautiful, and I bet it sells like crazy, even at $299 for an 8-gigabyte version and $399 for 16GB.
