Lindsay Lohan must be way bored with her current day gig—blogging—which has gotta be why she's always schlepping around the world with GF Sam. The pair spent a whopping 14 hours in South Beach for one of Sammy-pie's gigs at club Karu & Y, where L2 was also spotted slurping back libations her sponsor wouldn't exactly approve of. Oh, is that so? Dunno there; L.A.-type sponsors seem to be so liberal these days, but what the ef do I know? (Just that if you don't want to drink and drug, it's gotta be your call, not anybody else's, like, get real here, people).

When Ricky Gervais was a child, he thought Jesus was fantastic. "I loved him because he was kind and strong," he tells me, shortly before taking the stage at a secret warm-up gig ahead of his first major London appearances this year. "He fought for the underdog. He had integrity and charisma."

Last week we learned about the launching of Microsoft's first iPhone app, Seadragon, created by Microsoft's Live Labs research group. Seadragon is a iPhone and AJAX web plugin that lets you view high density graphic images (we're talking gig's in size here) in a web browser or via your iPhone. So... what the heck is Microsoft doing messing around building apps for the iPhone you might ask? Interesting question. From a research perspective, the iPhone brings both a sophisticated hardware mobile platform with a GPU along with millions of users who potentially can try out Seadragon, giving Microsoft an opportunity to try out their technology on a large number of users, even though Microsoft's sticking their nose under the Apple tent. Aside from Office on the Mac, we've not seen this happen too often.

Sometimes I envy the other contributors to these pages. They get to salute the heroes in their field, to bestow garlands upon the best and the finest that the bookshops of England can offer – and to acquire an armful of volumes that would grace the shelves of any reading person. I'm more like the Dynorod man. I roll up a sleeve, dip an arm into the slimy feculence of the celeb memoir business and yank out the ghost-written, self-indulgent, self-aggrandising effluvia of a ghastly gang of cash-randy showbiz egotists. I'd give it up – tell the editor to stuff it and give the gig to Marina Warner – if only I didn't like doing it so very much.
