When Gears of War 2 was released, one of the biggest complaints about the game was that its matchmaking system didn't work properly for multi-player games, leading to unreasonably long wait times. After trying to placate players with mostly useless suggestions, Epic finally released a patch to address the matchmaking issues. Unfortunately, now that players have had a chance to try it out, it seems a large segment of the Gears 2 population is still having problems.

Two days ago, Gears of War 2 level designer Dave Nash introduced players to the "dizzy hat" Easter egg, which appeared to equip all characters with Dizzy's cowboy hat. After a day of intense searching and claims of PhotoShop, Gears of War 2 forum member Grindhouse solved the riddle and uncovered how to unlock the hats. The best part? Unlocking the hats results in giant-hat-wearing corpsers who yell demonic "Yee-haws".

Gears of War (2006) was one of the first real breakout games for the Xbox 360. The score was by Kevin Riepl who employed a symphonic sound for the game in a continuing tradition of large-scale cinematic scores for video games. That score was recorded in Seattle, but for the sequel, production moved closer to Hollywood with the use of the Skywalker Ranch music facilities and the many superb musicians from the Bay area that make up that ensemble.

That Combustible map pack didn't seem to ignite much passion into Gears of War 2, as the shoe-in for Best Shooter Involving a Chain Saw-infused Rifle Award remains numero quartro on the Xbox Live activity chart for last week. The game was also 4th place the week prior, and 3rd place for two consecutive weeks before that. Far from being a bad position, but it's certainly not dominating the service like its predecessor.

I've never seen, heard or played a game that has actually managed to make a mockery of the global gaming coverage media as much as Gears 2. And now that I've made my initial peace, its time to put some light on the subject at hand. The locusts are back and after destroying all human city-states, they're now gunning for Jacinto, mankind's last known haven. This has given Marcus Fenix and his Delta Squad a reason to fight, engage, and terminate. The campaign is definitely bigger and better than the original. But keep in mind that the plot of the original was nothing more than an interactive piffle of an exercise. Now, how is it better exactly, you ask?
