MCM London 2008

"Freaks," mutters my trusty companion as we stumble through the gargantuan entrance halls of London's Excel centre, looking to take in all that day two of the London Movie Comic Media Expo (MCM) has to offer. "All of them freaks". I eye the scene with interest, there's stalls that sell every variety of comic book and its related paraphernalia, cosplayers (Japanese-inspired dressing up), table-top games, promotions-galore and, yes, videogames. A lot of videogames.

Cheney freaks the blog out with the funny

Vice President Dick Cheney sat for the weirdest radio interview ever today, with the "Chaz and AJ in the Morning" show on WPLR in New Haven. It was certainly a departure from his usual outings with Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.

Boss Buster Guide for Metal Gear Solid 4

The bosses of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots are tough to beat, even for the most accomplished gamer. As if the roster of freaks in all the previous games wasn't ridiculous enough, you now have to deal with crazy mechanized babe machines, a souped-up Metal Gear Ray, and an immortal vampiric freakshow. GamePro's going to give you some valuable intel on taking down the big baddies in MGS4, just in case you can't sneak your way out of a "Mission Failed" scenario.

Does Google hate America?

It all started with Burning Man. In 1998, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin took time off from coding search algorithms to jump in a car, drive to Nevada, and bake in the desert with circus performers and ecstasy-addled freaks. On a lark, the two men tweaked Google's logo to tip off hipsters that they were out of the office, planting a Burning Man image inside one of Google's letters. "They wanted to communicate with the users, in a fun, lighthearted way, that they were going to be away," says Dennis Hwang, Google's Web-master manager. "Anyone in the know would know where they were."

GameStop, Now One Less Stop for Zune

About a year and a half after GameStop decided to start carrying Microsoft's Zune MP3 player, the gaming chain plans to retire those in-store displays. This could lead to a bunch of the Zune-logo-shaped neon signs that have shown up there becoming available on eBay, much to the delight of Zune freaks everywhere.

Google Creates Tour De France Video Maps

An anonymous reader writes "In honor of the Tour de France's start today, Google has used it's awesome Street View technology to compile amazing Tour de France route views. A great description of the technology that went into creating this can be found in this LinuxDevices article. At least, I'm assuming these are the cameras — Google acknowledged using Elphel cameras for book scanning and 'capturing street imagery in Google Maps.' And from the article, the cameras have come along way from the days when crazy cat ladies and other privacy freaks scuppered Street View in San Francisco a couple of years back."
