imageComplaining about how comScore (NSDQ: SCOR) undercounts unique visitors compared to their internal numbers is a fairly constant refrain from web publishers. So when Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Ad Planner was released with the promise of better figures (i.e. higher unique visitor counts) than comScore, Federated Media head John Battelle was initially enthused. But after comparing the first set of numbers between the two, Battelle writes on his Searchblog, that Google Ad Planner is hardly the hoped for comScore-killer. While the comparison data Battelle received is from comScore, he says given that comScore’s reputation depends on not juicing the stats, he is inclined to trust that the research is bias-free. Battelle’s review follows others, such as ad agency and web publishers, who also found that Google Ad Planner was, in the words of Fo

There is a college student in Texas who has been battling RIAA in one of the organization’s lawsuits against copyright infringement. The student was found guilty of illegal filesharing and downloads through Kazaa when she was just 16. She has pled guilty to illegal downloads but has asserted an “innocent infringement” defense alleging that she didn’t know that she was doing anything illegal. RIAA fought the defense with the argument that there are copyright notices on the CDs sold in stores and therefore that she should have known that she was violating copyright laws. The courts have ruled against RIAA in this instance. This doesn’t mean that all is good for the filesharer; the fine could still be as much as $200 per infringement. However, it remains a notable setback for RIAA which now needs to decide whether to accept the plea or go fo

An anonymous reader writes "Canadian telco TELUS sold a bunch of (expensive) Unlimited EV-DO aircard accounts last winter and are now summarily canceling them or forcing people to switch to much less valuable plans. TELUS is citing 'Violations,' but their Terms Of Service (see #5) are utterly vague and self-contradictory. The TELUS plans were marketed as being unlimited, without the soft/hard caps that the other providers had at the time. They were purchased by a lot of rural Canadians who had no other choice except dialup. Now TELUS is forcing everyone to switch from a $75 Unlimited plan to a $65 1GB plan, and canceling those who won't switch. Have a look at the thread at Howardforums, a discussion of the TELUS ToS (in red at the bottom), an EV-DO blogger who's been a victim, a post at Electronista, and of course Verizon getting fined fo

I debated about whether or not to highlight Thriftwares, an easy-to-navigate, well-curated eBay boutique that sells tons of cool, up-to-the minute (is it weird to call vintage clothes up-the-minute? I'm deciding no) pieces I want. The reason for my hesitation is most of the clothes are XS/S and made for skinny women, which I—and I'm guessing many of you—are not. But then I decided that the store is so good, and so packed with gorgeous finds, that it would be prejudice against the thin to leave this particular gem off our collective eBay radar. So without further ado, check it out: There are an array of sleek coats, business lady dresses with some attitude, and fun, unique items like swingy fall capes. Not all of it is for the tiny (that cape would look great on any of us) though definitely, for sure, my next favorite eBay shop will fo
