Hawaii's Pacific Aviation Museum Offers Summer Programs

The Pacific Aviation Museum-Pearl Harbor in Hawaii has announced its 2008 educational summer programs for kids age 5 and older. Guided educational tours that highlight aviation history and advances made during WWII include individual and school tours, the Keiki Air Cadet and "Just Plane Fun" programs. Children age 5 and 6 tour through the museum learning about airplanes on a one-and-a-half-hour Keiki Air Cadet program. Kids age 7 and older can take the one-and-a-half-hour guided tour or opt for a two-and-a-half-hour tour with flight lab experience. NASA X-43 - (Hyper-X) Hypersonic Aircraft, USA

NASA's X-43A or Hyper-X air vehicle achieved a record-breaking speed of close to Mach 10 (12,000km/hr or 7,000mph) in a test flight in November 2004, which was the culmination of a three-flight test program. Hyper-X is an experimental hypersonic flight research program managed by the NASA Langley Center at Hampton, Virginia. The purpose of the program is to develop a hypersonic air vehicle powered by an air-breathing engine. Hypersonic speed is defined as speed above Mach 5 or above five times the speed of sound.

Space Adventures, a Virginia company that arranges passage for wealthy explorers to ride on Russian Soyuz rockets to the International Space Station, plans to buy a Soyuz flight all its own in 2011, with the option of buying more. A new investor is likely to occupy one of the two available seats on Space Adventures’ 2011 flight: Sergey Brin, a co-founder of Google. He made a $5 million investment in the company that will serve as a deposit on a future flight.
