PSP Firmware 4.05 - Yup, another PSP firmware ... [PSP]

PSP Firmware 4.05 - Yup, another PSP firmware update's on the horizon! Exciting, no? This one's due "soon", and seems designed solely to spite Robbie Bach and his anti-PSP-as-a-music-player sentiments, as it's geared towards making your PSP music-playing experience just that little bit more pleasurable, which it will do by adding some new visualizers for music playback, "among other features".

Sony Releases 2.41 PS3 Firmware

Bad news spreads fast in today's world, so when Sony released the 2.40 PS3 firmware update last week it wasn't long before reports of problems started to emerge, with some being unlucky enough to brick their console with the update. Sony therefore made the decision to take down the 2.40 update while they ironed out the problems, with the result being today's 2.41 firmware. Sony are now confident that the issues with 2.40 have been resolved, and have extended their apologies to the Playstation community for any inconvenience caused. 2.41 doesn't add any additional features over 2.40, and Sony hasn't said what it will do about the consoles that were bricked by the 2.40 firmware yet.

Firmware 2.40 Due July 2nd

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that its Firmware 2.40 update will go live on July 2nd. In one of the most substantial Firmware updates released on PS3 to date, 2.40 is set to provide a Trophy feature to rival Xbox 360 Achievements and an in-game XrossMediaBar (XMB).

Apple Firmware 2.1 Gets Big Upgrade: Finally a Smartphone?

While most iPhone users are awaiting Firmware 2.0.1 to get their stability issues resolved, scant details are floating around on the internet about 2.1 with improvements to GPS and possibly the copy and paste function, a feature that most users have been eager to have since the inception of the first iPhone. According to iPhone Atlas, the new firmware made some API changes that will make the GPS more accurate, with speed and direction readings. Also, Engadget Mobile is reporting that there are some command strings for cut, copy, and paste. It looks like the upgrade, along with the resolution of some serious stability issues, may be a welcomed tune for many iPhone users who have upgraded to iPhone 2.0 or have bought an iPhone 3G.

PS3 firmware 2.42 silently sneaks out

The PlayStation 3 continues to evolve with each firmware update, but not every update can be as exciting as, say, version 2.4 was. With little notice, the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update, version 2.42, has snuck out. What exactly the update does, though, remains to be seen.

PS3 firmware finally fixed!

It’s been a bit of a saga, if we’re honest – and a needless one at that. However, after much hoo-hah and a minor bit of jiggery-pokery Sony has officially announced that the problematic firmware 2.40 has been fixed thanks to the cunningly-titled firmware 2.41. Ah, you see what they’ve done there...?

Sony Explains What Went Wrong with Firmware 2.4

PlayStation 3 firmware 2.4 bricked a few systems, was eventually pulled and then, today, got rereleased as firmware 2.41. Hooray!! But wait a second...what exactly went wrong with 2.4 in the first place? Sony has gone on the record with an official explanation:

PS3 v2.40 firmware pulled thanks to issues

Sony's well-anticipated firmware update version 2.40 for the PlayStation 3 went live for download yesterday, bringing with it in-game XrossMediaBar (XMB) access and Trophies for supporting PS3 game titles. Unfortunately, the update process did not appear to be as silky smooth as it was for previous firmware releases, and technical issues soon reared their ugly heads.

Sony Pulls Update Following PS3 Firmware Fiasco

The PlayStation 3 firmware 2.40 update that Sony rolled out earlier this week included features like new XrossMediaBar functions, a new Trophies system and, in a few cases, complete system meltdown. Hours after Sony made the firmware available, users started complaining about a range of problems, and Sony has pulled the update in order to investigate.

PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.4 in Photographs

We've already seen two videos of Sony's latest 2.4 firmware for the PS3 (that hits July 2nd, incidentally), but sometimes the story is easily told in good old fashioned photography. So here are some direct feed shots of the new firmware, including plenty of material on the new

Sony Says PS3 Firmware 2.41 Out "Midweek"

For those of you waiting on the new PS3 2.41 firmware to replace last week’s botched 2.40 version, you may not have to wait much longer. According to Sony’s customer service, firmware version 2.41 should be out “midweek.” This is good news for people like me with 2.40 installed and no issues but not so good news for those people with bricked PS3s.

PS3 2.40 Firmware Crashing Consoles?

In my excitement over the release of the new Playstation 3 firmware, 2.40, which includes in-game XMB support and trophies, I forgot what I usually recommend to people: don't jump on it (an OS update, a patch, a firmware update) until you see what happens to others who upgrade.

iPhone 2.0.1 firmware already in testing?

Apple may already have the next iteration of iPhone firmware in late development, web traffic indicates. Data analyzed from server logs shows a minority of references to iPhones running firmware titled v2.0.1, instead of the normal v2.0 available preloaded or as an iTunes upgrade. The connecting phones are further divided into different builds, with 2.5G models running 5B101, and 3Gs relying on 5B103.

In addition to the announcement of the D700, Nikon has revised the firmware of the D3 and D300. Nikon D3 and D300 Firmware Updates

Hot on the tail of the D700 release, Nikon let loose firmware 2.0 for the D3 DSLR, making the amazing camera even better. The main points of interest are improved autofocus and white balance, but I've blockquoted the laundry list below. The D300 gets a firmware update to 1.03 to fix incorrect battery indicator readouts, which is not nearly as exciting. [Nikon via Rob Galbraith via Gadgetlab]

Nikon updates D3, D300 firmware for dSLRs

Only a few days after its D700 announcement (pictured at right), Nikon has released v2.0 firmware for its D3 digital SLR (Windows/Mac), bringing improved autofocus performance, improved Auto White Balance, and an issue that caused the battery indicator to blink, regardless of actual battery charge (which the company claims happened in "rare circumstances"). Nikon says that the firmware update incorporates a number of other fixes, including (1) allowing the aperture setting to be adjusted from the computer when shooting LiveView mode using Camera Control Pro 2 (ver. 2.2.0) or later with a PC-E lens. Other fixes include more "Vignette control" settings and fixes, more world-time options, new options for "Choose image area," and a new "Copyright information" item that has been added to the setup menu.
