Autobytel Hires New CTO

Irvine-based Autobytel announced today that the firm has appointed Michael Hunsche as the firm's Chief Technology Officer. The firm, which provides automobile marketing services through its online car buying website, said that Hunsche joins the firm from Arbonne International, a global marketing company. Hunsche has also served at KinderCare Learning Centers, The Walt Disney Company, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. According to the firm, Hunsche will focus on improving and scaling the firm's MyRide.com consumer website.

Singapore Firm Claims Patent Breach By Virtually All Websites

An anonymous reader writes "A Singapore firm, VueStar has threatened to sue websites that use pictures or graphics to link to another page, claiming it owns the patent for a technology used by millions around the world. The company is also planning to take on giants like Microsoft and Google. It is a battle that could, at least in theory, upend the Internet. The firm has been sending out invoices to Singapore companies since last week asking them to pay up."

DivX Adds Spanish Support

San Diego-based DivX said today that it has begun offering Spanish versions of the firm's video creation and playback software. The firm, which develops video encoding/decoding software, said that the firm's software for converting digital video files into its format also adds support for QuickTime files and AVI 2.0, and new high-definition 1080p HD support, in addition to the new Spanish localization. DivX licenses its codec to consumer electronics manufacturers and software developers.

Novastor Adds Amazon S3 Support

Simi Valley-based NovaStor, a developer of data storage management software, said today that it has released the latest version of the firm's NovaBACKUP data protection and disaster recovery software. The firm said that the upgraded software--NovaBACKUP 10--adds ability to back up data to online storage accounts, and full disk image recovery. The software, which previously only supported local backup to hard drive, tape, NAS, or CD/DVD, now supports backup of data to online data storage services such as Amazon S3, storage acconuts from NovaStor, or other online backup services. The firm said the software is available for Windows-based PCs and servers, and includes one year of free online storage.

Zumobi Adds BlackBerry Support

Seattle-based Zumobi said today that it has launched an application for BlackBerry devices. Zumobi develops mobile widget software for users to access customized web content. The firm's platform is ad supported, and was initially available only on Windows Mobile. The firm's widgets includes news, sports, entertainment, and links to Facebook, Twitter, and other online services. The firm was formerly known as ZenZui, and is backed by Hunt Ventures and Oak Investment Partners.

CEIVA Logic Sues Digital Photo Frame Makers

Burbank-based CEIVA Logic, a manufacturer of photo frames and online photo services, said Tuesday that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against two companies, Frame Media, Inc. and Digital Spectrum Solutions, Inc. According to the firm, CEIVA asserts that Frame Media's FrameChannel photo sharing service, and Digital Spectrum's web enabled pictures frames infringe on a patent granted to the firm. CEIVA is looking for damages for the patent infringement, and an injunction on the two firms for selling products or systems that infringe on CEIVA's patent. CEIVA said the suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and that it is represented by The Hecker Law Group in the lawsuit.
