How to convert iTunes music to MP3

The music files you purchased from iTunes store are under DRM protection. You cannot play them on your own mobile devices other than iPod and iPhone. You cannot convert the DRM protected music files to MP3 or WMA directly with iTunes media player, either. However you can burn the protected music files to CD-R or CD-RW disc to make an audio CD and then use some CD ripper software to convert the audio CD track back to MP3, WAV, WMA, etc. And iTunes allows you to burn the protected music files to CD-R or CD-RW disc to make a standard audio CD. If you have only a few music files, you can use the method below:

iTunes does not add files to library in the proper order

When users add song files to iTunes, they can import them either by using the "Import" option in the "File Menu", or by dragging the files into the iTunes window. When the latter is used, many times the files will import in a seemingly random order and then display and play out of order as well.

DataCase may help you access your iPhone files

Accessing iPhone’s files using Wi-Fi is an attractive idea and SSH had already made that possible. However, the technology is too complicated and hence, Veiosoft is developing an application called DataCase. The application is in public data and can help you turn your iPhone into a wireless storage device. This could mean that files on iPhone can be made accessible from anywhere with this new application. You could go ahead and access documents, files, music, photos etc. The technology is being kept as simple as possible and is going to be user-friendly. DataCase will cost only $7 when released and the affordability may also play a role in its success.

ssh-xfer: Quickly grabbing files over an existing SSH connection

The Secure Shell (SSH) and Secure Copy (SCP) make remotely performing system administration and copying files across secure links a painless operation. SSH and SCP use the same SSH protocol to protect network communications, but they rely on users knowing if they want a shell or to copy a file beforehand. You cannot easily use an existing SSH shell connection to a remote machine and just grab one or two files; if you want the files, you'll have to make another SSH connection for the file copy using SCP -- unless you have ssh-xfer.

Use Fluke to add FLAC files to your iTunes library

The are quite a few audio and media formats out there, one of which is FLAC, the Free Lossless Audio Codec. This format serves a purpose similar to that of the Apple Lossless format, but many Apple users haven't heard of FLAC. This is due in large part to the lack of FLAC support in iTunes. Still, many Mac users have large FLAC libraries, so a number of attempts have been made to shoehorn FLAC files into iTunes. One of the newer utilities, Fluke, offers an easy way to add FLAC files to your iTunes library.

Secure File Storage Over Non-Trusted FTP?

hmckee writes "Does any software exist that enables me to store/backup/sync files from my local computer to a non-trusted FTP site? To accomplish this, I'm using a script to check timestamps, encrypt and sign the files individually, then copy each file to an offsite FTP directory. I've looked over many different tools (Duplicity, Amanda, Bacula, WinSCP, FileZilla) but none of them seem to do exactly what I want: (1) multi-platform (Windows and Linux), stand-alone client (can be run from a portable drive). (2) Secure backup (encrypted and signed) to non-trusted FTP site. (3) Sync individual files without saving to a giant tar file. (4) Securely store timestamps and file names on the FTP server. Any help or info on alternative solutions appreciated.

Macromedia Flash URL Modification Issue

There's been a report of a new vulnerability in the Flash Player that could allow maliciously authored Flash content, working in conjunction with other content on a Web server, to read the contents of files from the local file systems of Flash Player users, and send those contents back to Web servers without users' consent or knowledge. This vulnerability is limited to files whose locations and names are known or guessed ahead of time by attackers. An attacker would have to entice the user to a site under his control to exploit this vulnerability. This vulnerability can never be used to modify or delete local files. All Macromedia Flash Players are affected. Macromedia has released new versions of all Flash Players fixing this issue.

Java and Mac envelopes

HASP SRM v 3.50 adds automatic file wrapping for Java apps and enhanced security to Aladdin’s hardware- and software-based copy protection and licensing solution. The HASP SRM Java Envelope provides protection for Java Archive (JAR) files through strong encryption, protecting against reverse engineering at the class-level through the encryption of user-selected class files. A cross-platform environment based on intermediate code, Java is highly prone to reverse-engineering, making Envelope protection critical to securing intellectual property. Unlike other software DRM solutions, the HASP SRM Java Envelope does not require the conversion of Java files into another format in order to implement HASP SRM software- or hardware-based locking.
