How-To: Enable and control missing features in iTunes 8

The iTunes 8 update came with a host of new features, including the Genius playlist generator as well as the "Grid" view for displaying album covers. However, despite the new features, users have complained about the removal or lack of inclusion of other features. Most of the removed features are coded into the program, but they are not enabled. This could be because of a change in direction by Apple, an attempt to make iTunes simpler, or because some features are still not polished enough for general release. Regardless of the circumstances, popular features that are missing from iTunes can be enabled for those who wish to do so. Here are some enhancements or alterations to iTunes that have been requested. All users have to do is enter the following commands in the terminal and then relaunch iTunes.

The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) has praised Apple for including features on iTunes and the latest iPod Nano that allow for easier use by the blind or visually impared, with an improved accessibility page on Apple's website. The Nano now features options such as large fonts and a synthesized voice that speaks the names of menus, songs, and artists. This starts with iTunes 8; when the accessibility option is selected it creates the text-to-speech files that are then synced to the 4th gen Nano.

Google Refreshes Its Blog Search Tool

Google recently added new interesting features in the English version of it Blog Search tool, with the same changes reportedly reaching its international counterparts in the next few days. Features include grouping by topic and indicating the number of blogs featuring similar news, adopting a technology very similar to that of the more popular Google News. Even better, the search tool now also features a graph plotting the number of blog posts on any given topic during the last few hours.
