fakes: search
While some folks actively search out knockoffs of high-end brands, most of us would prefer the real thing. Especially when looking for expensive apparel and accessories online, although sorting out the real deal from the fakes can get a bit tedious. Even more frustrating is when companies selling knockoffs buy up all the Google AdWords related to what you're looking for. But is that really Google's fault? French courts have believed that to be the case, much to the search giant's chagrin, and now the European Court of Justice will rule whether Google violates trademark laws across Europe by allowing companies selling fakes to buy such keywords.

Slimy anti-virus provider AVG is spamming the internet with deceptive traffic pretending to be Internet Explorer. Essentially, users of the software automatically pre-crawl search results, which is bad, but they do so with an intentionally generic user agent. This is flooding websites with meaningless traffic (on Slashdot, we're seeing them as like 6% of our page traffic now). Best of all, they change their UA to avoid being filtered by websites who are seeing massive increases in bandwidth from worthless robots.
