Campus copyright battle moves to textbook torrents

The RIAA's extensive campaign against filesharing has drawn in a lot of individuals, but college campuses have remained a major target of the content owners' legal threats. It's pretty clear that there's significant expertise with filesharing on college campuses, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that this expertise has been put to use with other copyrighted materials. Textbook companies are getting worried about the sharing of their bread-and-butter online, and have started a campaign designed to block the sharing at its source.

RIAA's SafeNet Caught In a Lie

NewYorkCountryLawyer writes "For the past 2 years, the RIAA and its attack dog SafeNet (formerly known as MediaSentry) have been trying to avoid disclosure in UMG v. Lindor by telling the judge that MediaSentry is NOT an expert, that it does not use any technical expertise to get the 'evidence', and that it does only 'what any other Kazaa user does'. We have just discovered that in administrative proceedings in Michigan, attacking it for engaging in the business of investigation without a license, MediaSentry has taken the exact opposite position, comparing itself to chemical engineers, surveyors, physicians, geologists, and other expert witnesses who rely on their technical expertise. Today we went public with some of the contradictions. Now let's hope Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Growth finds out about it.

True Mobilitie with Oracle Solutions: Integration, Domain Expertise, and Scalability

At a fundamental level, the mobile telecom industry is built like a three-legged stool. Mobilitie founder, 'president and CEO Gary Jabara, says the key to Mobilities business success–rocketing from zero three years ago to nearly $1 billion in enterprise value–is the company's effort to revolutionize the third leg through a unique combination of a traditional real estate investment model and a carrierfriendly operating structure. Mobilitie's business–owning and/or managing mobile telecom transmission facilities–helps carriers accelerate network deployment, red

Consumer Product Safety Commission Not Ready for Nanotech

Agency lacks budget, authority and expertise to ensure nanoproducts are safe WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --- The inability of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to carry out its mandate with respect to simple, low-tech products such as children's jewelry and toy trains bodes poorly for its ability to oversee the safety of complex, high-tech products made using nanotechnology, according to a new report released by the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies (PEN). Two nanotech products under the jurisdiction of the CPSC are being used in the Olympic Games in Beijing -- a pair of running shoes and a swimsuit. The products can be found in PEN's consumer product inventory (http://www.nanotechproject.org/inventories/consumer/), which now contains more than 800 manufacturer-identified, nanotechnology-enabled items.
