Why Does Everyone Hate eBay?

I'd normally join the line to dance on eBay's grave, having occasionally criticized its namesake site over the years. But in this case, I'd rather wipe away the dirt, crack open the coffin, and show everyone that eBay is far from dead.

Off the shelf: Everyone's talking about the Kindle, Rowling at Harvard, authors at Google

Forget fall's big releases. The one thing that everyone was talking about at last week's Book Expo America, the annual tradeshow for the publishing industry, was Amazon's e-book reader the Kindle. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos gave a talk at the trade fair last week and got booksellers both worried and excited about the electronic future.

Blogroll: San Francisco Network Administrator Locks Everyone Out, Goes to Jail

Dan Lohrmann reports that a disgruntled San Francisco network administrator has locked everyone out of the city's system and now sits in jail refusing to divulge the password.

Troll Patents Lists In Databases, Sues Everyone

I Don't Believe in Imaginary Property writes "A Florida patent troll called Channel Intelligence is suing everyone from Lemonade to Remember the Milk for infringing on patent 6,917,941, which covers storing a wishlist in a database. Amazon and eBay are absent from the list of targets, even though they very likely store users' wishlists in a database. With any luck, perhaps one of the defendants will get to use that precedent PJ found the other day from In re Lintner, which said, '[c]laims which are broad enough to read on obvious subject matter are unpatentable even though they also read on non-obvious subject matter.'"

A bevy of beauties milled around her. Almost everyone of them wanted to say something to her and you could see happiness etched around her aging face as she smiled continually. Deborah Adebola Fasoyin is a member of the famous Good Women’s Choir that originated in Ibadan many years back.

First Look: Squirrel personal finance app

Everyone makes money and spends it, but not everyone bothers to track their income and expenses. To make managing your money simple, you can choose from a variety of programs, including Intuit's standard Quicken. The problem with most of these applications is that they come loaded with so many features, few people take the time to learn them all. As a result many people ignore these programs, and those that do use them can only understand a fraction of the available options. If you find traditional budgeting programs too complicated, then you might appreciate the simplicity of Squirrel.

Do your homework before venting online

PS3 System Software Update (v2.41)

Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly. We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

Hendrix next for Guitar Hero

iPhone Data Plans in Mexico Cause Pre-Launch Anxiety, Protests

Mexican citizens are just as excited as everyone else to pick up an iPhone 3G tomorrow but the data plans announced by the provider, Telcel, is giving everyone south of the border a strong case of heartburn.

Mac Bloggers Gnash Teeth Over iPhone Pricing Numbers

AT&T has released more details on the 3G iPhone's pricing schedule. Turns out, not everyone will be eligible to get one at $199 right away, and not everyone will be required to lock themselves into a contract. However, AT&T's numbers only represent how sales will be handled in the U.S. Buyers elsewhere may face better or worse deals. Potential customers in Canada, for instance, are fuming.

Test spin: Google App Engine

One of the joys of being a Web programmer is heading to a dinner party, a haircut, or a reunion and fielding the pitches for everyone's dream for a brilliant Web application. Everyone is always happy to cut you in for 5, 10, maybe even 15 percent of the equity if you just build out the Web site that's sort of like a combination of Twitter, AltaVista, Eliza, TurboTax, and the corner pharmacy, but cooler.

KDE 4.1 Beta 2 – Two Steps Forward, One Step Back?

jammag writes "Linux pundit Bruce Byfield takes a look at the latest KDE beta and finds it wanting: 'Very likely, KDE users will have to wait for another release or two beyond 4.1 before the new version of KDE matches the features of earlier ones, especially in customization.' He notes that the second beta is still prone to unexplained crashes, and goes so far as to say, 'Everyone agrees now that KDE 4.0 was a mistake.' I'm not too sure about that — really, 'everyone?'"

KDE at the Libre Graphics Meeting 2008 (KDE.News)

The Libre Graphics Meeting brings together developers of free graphics software in the widest sense of the word as well as the users: artists, photographers, designers and publishers. Whether you are interested in fonts, photography, panoramas, digital art, mathematics, colour theory, vector libraries, applications, file formats, interoperability, user interaction, typesetting, text layouting, 3D modeling or animation, or all of those, the Libre Graphics Meeting is the meeting to attend. This year's program had a particularly good mix of introductory and in-depth presentations. No topic was left unexplored, and the great thing is: everyone was talking to everyone and came home with new ideas, new initiatives for cross-project cooperation and integration.

Everyone Be Afraid! Predators Move To Game Consoles

There's a neat little rule in press coverage: three stories makes a "trend" even if there's not much more to it. This works particularly well on stories where you're trying to scare people into worrying about something "bad" happening out there. Of course, rather than explore how widespread the problem is, the report usually just quotes a few biased individuals and spreads the message of "fear, fear, fear!" Witness this story in USA Today claiming that sexual predators are using gaming consoles to target kids. It hits all the points: scary situation, lists out three cases, quotes a few police officers claiming it's a big deal -- but doesn't provide any evidence or stats on how widespread this really is.

Everyone's Going Nuts For KP!

The 34-year-old is out of contract with West Bromwich Albion at the end of this month and he has not yet agreed a new deal despite finishing last season as top scorer for the Championship title winners.

If Everyone On eBay Was Forced To Be Honest

The only reason this list is so funny is because it is true. All eleven entries are pure comedy gold but I think I like #9 and #4 the most:

iPhones For EVERYONE!

While I was combing over every bit of rumor and speculation that has seeped from the slimy underbelly of the internet over the past few weeks, I had a revelation. Maybe it's iPhone fatigue, maybe it's the four Red Bulls I had before breakfast. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be a winner.
