Zonk pointed out a post on Joystiq highlighting a recent tantrum thrown by the ESA. Apparently the ESA didn't appreciate the framing GamePolitics chose to use for a story about E3's Keynote speaker and Texas Governor, Rick Perry. GamePolitics continues to call Perry into question as a choice for keynote speaker, saying: "While there are surely many Christians among E3 attendess, there are just as surely many who aren't. Aside from the fact that Perry was a bizarre keynote choice from the get-go, his divisive comments indicate that the ESA should rescind the offer. We have to ask again: why is E3 2008 being politicized? The answer, we suspect, has much to do with embattled ESA boss Michael Gallagher."

It seems to be the week for big politics and space exploration. Yesterday, the Universe Today reported that Buzz Aldrin was worried about the future of the politically-driven US space policy; he is currently lobbying US President hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain to increase NASA funding. On the other side of the pond, French President Nicolas Sarkozy also wants NASA's European counterpart, ESA, to do better. However, Sarkozy wants to change the face of the ESA into the NASA model by making it politically driven, rather than leaving European bureaucrats to decide ESA priorities. ESA has operated independently from political pressures that often weigh down on space agencies, but Sarkozy is a huge advocate of the US system and believes space exploration should be politically motivated.

The Entertainment Software Association, whose members include Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Atari, among others, spent more than 714,000 dollars in the first quarter to lobby the federal government, the Associated Press reports. The trade group, which represents video and computer game makers, is a strong proponent of industry self-regulation. The ESA lobbied on First Amendment issues, measures to promote parental control technology and on proposals intended to keep violent video games away from children. In addition, the group lobbied on measures to protect intellectual property, crack down on piracy, and on patent reform and trade issues, according to a disclosure report filed April 21 with the House clerk’s office. Besides Congress, the group lobbied the Patent and Trademark Office, U.
