LM Ericsson Telephone (ERIC) NewsBite - ERIC Down on Sony Warning

LM Ericsson Telephone Co. (ERIC) opened at 10.04. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 10.00 and a high of 10.22. ERIC is now trading at 10.20, down 0.65 (-6.48%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 21.70 in July and set its 52 week low of 8.52 in March. ERIC has been moving downwards for the past year. LM Ericsson Telephone shares have been taking a hit today after its joint venture, Sony Ericsson, announced it expects second-quarter sales and profit declines on market challenges. Technical indicators for the stock are bullish but deteriorating while S&P gives ERIC a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold rating. If you’re looking for a hedged play on this stock, consider an October bear-call credit spread above the $12.50 range. ERIC stock could rise up to 22.

Jul. 7--Swedish cellular phone maker Sony Ericsson tops the 8th edition of Greenpeace "Guide to Greener Electronics," the environmental group said Friday even as other companies who previously scored high in the quarterly survey have seen their ranking plummet. In a press conference in Makati on Thursday, Greenpeace Southeast Asia Toxics Campaigner Beau Baconguis said that aside from Sony Ericsson, Japanese electronics giant Sony also scored high in the latest survey.

Symbian Foundation Formed, Symbian OS, S60, and UIQ Going Open Source

Earlier today Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, and NTT DoCoMo announced that they are planning to turn the Symbian smartphone OS and its user interfaces into one royalty-free and, eventually, open source platform. In order to do that, Nokia has announced that it will be purchasing the remaining shares of Symbian that it does not already own from the other Symbian partners and will contribute the Symbian operating system, as well as its S60 user interface, to a new non-profit organization called the Symbian Foundation. Sony Ericsson and Motorola will, in turn, donate their UIQ assets while Japan's NTT DoCoMo will hand over its own MOAP(S) platform to the foundation.
