Dutch designer Jelte van Geest's RFID-enabled robotic chair is for Openbare Bibliotheek Endhoven, and it's fantastic. What you do is swipe your RFID-enabled library card in front of the chair's sensor, which then follows you (or your card) around the library so you always have somewhere to sit. Once you cross a line near the checkout counter, the chair returns back to its docking station to re-juice and get ready for the next guy's ass. The video after the jump illustrates how it works. Traditional retailers must feel that they’re up against it when the Internet became popular at the end of the 90s. It enabled the average user to obtain knowledge that took them beyond some of the staff who worked in retail. However, with the launch and popularity of eBay, it’s now enabled the average user to become their own retailer, buying and selling products that they either do not want, have obtained cheaply through ‘other sources’ and able to purchase across territories, so US products are now available to the UK market.

Barence writes "Nokia has revamped its E-series of business-oriented smartphones with two new models, including the "world's thinnest" QWERTY device. The GPS-enabled E71 is the slimmer successor to the Nokia E61, with a thickness of only 1cm. It's HSDPA-enabled, offers switchable home screens, and gives a claimed "two full days of heavy, heavy use". The E66, on the other hand, is a slide-phone with a conventional numerical keypad and a built-in accelerometer. At the same event, Nokia also gave a tantalising hint about its plans for an iPhone rival, with its senior vice president saying, "we will have touchscreen devices coming this year"."
