Drug ads can be confusing and often deceptive, so the Food and Drug Administration developed a Web site aimed at helping consumers evaluate the ads.

Multifunctional nanoparticles trick drug-resistant cell into committing suicide

(Nanowerk News) In an effort to overcome the drug resistance that often occurs in cancer, a team of investigators has developed a nanoparticle made of a blend of polymers that first releases a powerful anticancer drug and then delivers an agent that tricks a drug-resistant cell into committing suicide. Now, tests in mice with human breast cancer have shown that these blended nanoparticles are effective in maintaining high levels of both drugs in the vicinity of tumors.

Kandzari, MD, will present "The Micell Rapid Absorption Polymer DES System" during the Drug-Eluting Stent Summit at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference in Washington, DC, on October 13, 2008. The MiStent(TM), a drug-eluting stent in pre-clinical studies, utilizes a bioresorbable polymer coating that delivers the potential therapeutic benefits of the drug during the healing process. The drug and polymer are both eliminated from the stent within 90 days.

Patent suits against 3 drug majors in Aug

Three Indian drug manufacturers have been sued by various pharma companies in the US so far in August, as part of patent litigations against Indian companies vying for a pie of blockbuster patented drugs in the US market. Companies like Dr Reddy’s Labs and Orchid Chemicals, were sued by Swiss drug major Roche, while Sun Pharma was sued by Canadian firm Biovail Labs.
