hi_caramba_2008 writes "We are a bunch of good friends at a large software company. The product we work on is under-budgeted and over-hyped by the sales drones. The code quality sucks, and management keeps pulling in different direction. Discussing this among ourselves, we talked about leaving the company and rebuilding the code from scratch over a few months. We are not taking any code with us. We are not taking customer lists (we probably will aim at different customers anyway). The code architecture will also be different — hosted vs. stand-alone, different modules and APIs. But at the feature level, we will imitate this product. Can we be sued for IP infringement, theft, or whatever? Are workers allowed to imitate the product they were working on? We know we have to deal with the non-compete clause in our employment contracts, but i

If from today the whole world accepts the present "East as West and West as East" the Sun from tomorrow will start rising in the West and setting in the East. The truth is, the names of directions or existence of any thing that we call remain the same because names of all stars and planets are given by homo-sapiens and each member of this species call each of their names in their own languages. The objects do not change only the names do. Whatever the uncompromising leader of the BNP says is correct and there can be no change. Now she has said that no fair election is possible under this government and the CEC because both the institutions are playing different games. According to BNP Chairperson and its SG the government and the EC are preparing different playing fields for different parties.

IconCluster means different things to different people. In the context of this article, cluster is best defined as scale-out -- scale-out clusters generally have a lot of the same type of components like Web farms, render farms, and high performance computing (HPC) systems. 1Up reports on a patent recently awarded to Sony for a game controller that fits together in several different ways to accommodate different types of gameplay. It also appears to make use of motion-sensing technology, much like the Wiimote. "This new controller isn't just another revision of the Sixaxis; rather, it looks like a complete overhaul of the form and function of the device, resembling a pair of ice cream cones more than Sony's ubiquitous Dual Shock. The images accompanying the patent display two Wii-like remotes with removable button faceplates, topped off with strange, bulb-like shapes. These glowing, spherical structures house LEDs and ultrasonic sound emitters, which would allow the PlayStation Eye camera to determine the controllers' positions in three-dimensional space.

It’s hard to avoid making comparisons to Apple’s iPhone when you mention the HTC Touch Diamond. Although they are very different phones running on different operating systems, the Touch Diamond is arguably one of the closest competitors in the U.S. market today to the popular iPhone in terms of unique touch controls, an attractive looking user interface, power and versatility.

ICANN needs more fixing than just policing. In my opinion, there should only be one registrar, or only one per country. Registrars charge different rates, bundle different services, etc. Let's simplify it, only a handful of registrars that charge the ICANN fee plus a small administrative fee and then police the use of their domains.

Travelling and discovering new areas is done quite differently to other MMORPGs in The Chronicles of Spellborn. Since the world of Spellborn is divided in different shard realms floating through the Deadspell Storm, other means of transport are necessary than just walking or riding. In order to travel to the different rock realms, the fantasy online-roleplaying game offers impressive journeys on so-called shard ships. Similar to sailing boats these massive vehicles are able to fly from one shard to another through the magical Deadspell Storm.

A lot of recent research has focused on the content-based dissemination of XML data. However, due to the heterogeneous data schemas used by different data publishers even for data in the same domain, an important challenge is how to efficiently and effectively disseminate relevant data to subscribers whose subscriptions might be specified based on schemas that are different from those used by the data publishers. This paper examines the options to resolve this schema heterogeneity problem in XML data dissemination, and proposes a novel paradigm that is based on data rewriting.

By now, most Americans know that Bluetooth is not a dental problem, but a peculiar name for a recent technology. Perhaps the simplest explanation for Bluetooth is that it uses radio wave signals instead of a wire to connect electronic components. And like different kinds of wired connections, it can perform different functions depending upon the devices that are connected. Over one billion Bluetooth-enabled products are expected to ship worldwide this year, according to the market research firm InStat in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The summary is that the court has said that there's a two-pronged test to determine whether a software of business method process patent is valid: (1) it is tied to a particular machine or apparatus, or (2) it transforms a particular article into a different state or thing. In other words, pure software or business method patents that are neither tied to a specific machine nor change something into a different state are not patentable. That means a significant number of software and business method patents are about to disappear, freeing up many industries to be much more innovative -- at a time when that's desperately needed.
