Four devs working on PS3 Bioshock

The PlayStation 3 version of BioShock is shaping up to be quite a beast: a grand total of four developers are working on the port. Aside from 2K Boston and 2K Australia (the two teams who originally produced and released the game on the Xbox 360 and PC last summer) 2K Marin and an external studio, Digital Extremes have also signed on. It's worth nothing the need for four studios (that's got to set a record, maybe two with it being a port) could be due to the fact each of them are believed to be working on other projects at the moment.

Blog: Google rebuffs Android developer community petition

Yet more discouraging news on the Android front. Having hacked off its developer community by releasing updated SDKs to just a small group of chosen devs, Google has now given the brush-off to a petition that called for more to be given to the wider community.

Why We Still Need the iPhone App Black Market

IconThere are no less than five apps to turn my iPhone into a flashlight, yet I can't turn it into a 3G-powered Wi-Fi hotspot. Why? Because the SDK has more restrictions than Guantanamo-devs can't integrate with the OS and have to steer way, way clear of copyright and trademark issues-so the most innovative, game-changing apps might not ever make it to your squeaky clean iPhone." An editorial by Gizmodo. Many kinds of apps (from multi-IM apps running on the background, to copy/paste) require the level of system integration that either is not possible via the existing official API, or that Apple artificially limits via lawyers.

Medialets Ad Network First For iPhone Platform, Will Throw Ads Into Free Apps

There are already a ton of free apps in the store (134 to be exact), but ad startup Medialets is hoping to increase that number by providing a platform-wide ad network so developers can easily launch ad-supported free apps. Revenue will be split between devs and Medialets, with none apparently going to Apple (MobileBurn is reporting that Medialets's CEO is buds with Jobs from the NEXT days and has the capo's blessing) . Nobody has quite figured out the mobile advertising game on a large enough scale to do anything big, and having your pretty iPhone apps marred with Busted T's creative might be less than ideal, so it will be interesting to see how many developers jump aboard.
