The horror survival genre has always had a certain group of gamers following it, in fact you might even say it has a cult following (no pun intended!). After reviewing the abysmal Alone In The Dark recently I had hoped that Siren: Blood Curse might go some way to redeeming my faith in this somewhat stale sector of the gaming market.

In recent history, the healing powers of the mind-body connection in medicine have become increasingly renowned. Although the original skepticism of scientific and medical communities prevented the acceptance of the mind-body connection into the realm of mainstream medicine, today it is ever more acknowledged that one’s psychological convictions can affect the physiological to create an impressive force for the improvement of health, and even the conquest and prevention of such severe illnesses as cancer and heart disease. When India coach Gary Kirsten opened his mouth to state the obvious about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s likely future career path, he received a prompt rebuke from the BCCI. Later this month, new selectors are to be appointed who, in all probability, will reappoint Kumble to lead India against Australia. What happens beyond that is a guess — no less uncertain than predicting the fate of a fresh Friday release.

To me, good horror is about tension rather than simply grossing out the audience. A great horror game puts me on edge, makes me grit my teeth, and prompts me to lean with my character as I try to physically will the in-game camera to give me a slightly better view around an upcoming dark corner. Plenty of survival-horror games get this right, and plenty do it to the extent that I have to take breaks when the tension rides too high for too long rather than hitting me in more manageable bursts. So I’m really looking for two things: A game that instills tension, and one that maintains a pace that allows me to regain some level of comfort -- which in turn makes it a whole hell of a lot scarier the next time the tension rises.

For my fourth appearance on Captain Jack's Paranormal Radio show, I've been invited back to discuss a recent Universe Today article I wrote detailing some of my favourite Solar System mysteries. These mysteries include the coronal heating problem, the "Mars Curse" and Uranus' tilt. I don't have many answers, but there should be some surprises thrown in. Most likely Jack and I will meander into different topics, so it should be fun to listen in!

An anonymous reader writes "Since the last semester of college I've been working as a first line tech support agent. At first it was just a way to earn some extra money; then it became a way to scrape by until I could find myself a real job. By now (almost two years in), it's beginning to feel like a curse. The problem I'm having is that no matter how many jobs I apply for, and no matter how well-written my applications are, I can't seem to get further than the first interview. For some reason it seems a lot of employers will completely overlook my degree in computer engineering, the fact that I can show them several personal projects that I've worked on, and that I can show them that I clearly possess the skills they are looking for. I've had several employers tell me to my face, and in rejection letters, that my 'professional background
