Singapore to launch iPhone 3G on August 22?

Singapore may be another one of the countries set to receive the iPhone 3G on August 22, according to a new report. Late in July Apple said that the iPhone 3G would be released in 20 more countries on August 22 and up to this point 17 countries have been confirmed. A SingTel spokesman has reiterated a statement, first made in June, that SingTel will bring the iPhone 3G to Singapore by the end of the year and the report claims that it has been "seriously looking at launching the iPhone at the end of August or early September." If true it would seem logical for SingTel to launch on August 22 along side other releases.

iPhones Are Big Business on the Black Market

Apple’s sleek new iPhone 3G went on sale in 21 countries last week, but countries like Russia and China have yet to, officially, get there hands on them. Neither last year's original iPhone nor the updated model have been launched in those countries because Apple is still negotiating with mobile service providers.

"Phoney" iPhone Lines in Poland

On Friday, Apple's iPhone went on sale in 21 other countries, including India and Poland as iPhone 3G Rollout Phase II began. While demand for the iPhone 3G has been loud and clear in many countries so far (unlike 3G service on the device), the iPhone isn't quite such a hot commodity in the newly launched set countries. For one, Telekomunikacja Polska (TP), which France Telecom (whose wireless division is Orange) has a controlling stake in, has admitted it used actors to form fake lines, trying to make people believe that demand for the iPhone was higher than it actually was (see above).

Apple's Polish Joke: Polish iTunes Store Offers No Tunes

itunes.pngApple just expanded the list of international iTunes stores on its website, adding countries such as Poland, Qatar and the Czech Republic. The problem? None of these countries can buy anything through the iTunes store. Rather, they're just setting up the infrastructure so the residents of those countries can have access to iPhone Apps. What a sad, lonely iTunes store that must be. No music, no videos, no podcasts. Just Super Monkeyball and a few hundred to-do list apps. [iFun.de]

Did NBC Alter the Olympics' Opening Ceremony?

techmuse writes "Viewing the 2008 Olympics opening ceremony online at NBC's Olympics website, you can see that the order in which the countries were presented was very different from the actual order of the countries in the ceremony, as listed at Wikipedia. NBC skipped roughly 100 countries ahead, then jumped back and forth, apparently delaying the appearance of the United States in its home market until later in the broadcast. (In fact, the US team was shown on the infield before they were shown marching!) NBC did not acknowledge this in its broadcast. Is NBC altering the reality of the broadcast to boost ratings? Was this true only online, or also in the live broadcast?"

iPhone 3G prices and plans for 21 countries

With less than a week to go before the launch of the iPhone 3G, we thought we'd be able to compile a list of iPhone prices for the 20 countries where the new version or Apple's phone will be making its debut on the 11th. But surprisingly, six operators still haven't announced any pricing. Maybe that's good decision-making on their part, because in a good number of cases, the pricing of the phone and especially the plans were disappointing, often translating in significantly more than the $199/$299 indicated by Steve Jobs in his WWDC keynote.
