Microsoft confirms revised Xbox 360 controller...

Microsoft has revised the controller for its Xbox 360 controller and will release the new product this fall, according to a Wednesday report. The changes have to do with improving the d-pad's operation and confirm earlier reports of a new controller, though the news comes short of expectations. According to Microsoft staff, the product is available for a limited time and in markets outside of North America.

It's not the much-rumoured motion-sensing controller, but the ol' Xbox 360 pad is about to get an upgrade in the form of a lick of paint and a new D-pad. The new controller has been "optimized" for Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer series, and should make the d-pad a more viable option for controlling games that make use of it.

Microsoft fesses up to a new, tweaked Xbox 360 controller

According to gamesindustry.biz, Microsoft is confirming a slight revision to its Xbox 360 controller design. Apparently, the new iteration of the gamepad includes enhancements to its d-pad, which admittedly has always been somewhat lacking. In Microsoft's words: "The new limited edition green wireless controller offers enhancements to d-pad functionality, which will add to the experience of playing games where the d-pad is the primary control mechanism."

Intel releases draft spec for USB 3.0 controller

With AMD and NVIDIA threatening to develop their own USB 3.0 spec if they didn't receive the USB 3.0 host controller spec from Intel soon, on Wednesday Intel released the Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) draft specification revision 0.9 for USB 3.0 (also known as SuperSpeed USB). The release of the spec effectively ends their dispute with Intel.

The Nyko Wing, other than looking a bit more comfortable than the Wii's Classic Controller, brings a few other conveniences to Wii vintage gaming. First, it's wireless. So while it still requires an active Wiimote to communicate with the system (and it uses a Wiimote dongle to do so), you won't need to worry about wire tethering. The extra shoulder buttons may or may not come in handy (since Nintendo doesn't allow controller remapping in most Virtual Console titles), but very thoughtfully, you can load the Wing with AAA rechargeable batteries that can be refreshed via built-in USB.
