content: search
There are lots of different types of websites out there - product sites, marketing brochure sites, educational sites, etc. But the ones that people keep coming back to are content driven websites. As Website-Content-Providers.com explains, content driven sites are websites that are filled with content about a specific theme. While not enough people recognize it, the real purpose of copyright law is to provide an incentive for the creation of more content. The government felt that there was a market failure, where not enough "content" would be produced without a limited monopoly, and thus, copyright was born. However, that happened back in the day when creating content wasn't easy. You pretty much had to go through a professional process. These days, thanks to new technologies, creating content is exceptionally easy -- and thus, a big part of the very basis for copyright no longer makes sense. We're drowning in content -- and it's not because of the "incentive" of copyright. There are plenty of incentives for creating content these days and very few have anything to do with copyright.

I'd never really thought about it, but separating code from content can help your SEO, according to this article from SEOmoz. The article discusses more about how the coding tenet MVC (model view controller) can be used to modify templates so that they are more SEO friendly. But the point is that if you separate the code of your pages from the content of your pages, you make it easier to modify that content to be SEO friendly.

I love blockquotes. I find them so useful for pulling out blocks of text and creating interesting features within article content. But they're so much better when you style them with fancy styles. While it's possible to use generated content CSS to add the quotes to the front and back, this isn't reliable - IE doesn't like content inside of CSS. But this site shows how to create fancy blockquotes with visual quote marks using a CSS 3 property last-child. They also show you how to do it using content, but I don't recommend that if your site has a lot of IE visitors.
