Android phone confirmed, "bulky" vs iPhone

The first known phone based on Google's Android mobile operating system has been confirmed today through two separate sources. A report in the New York Times reinforces previous rumors that the HTC Dream will be the first to run the Linux-based platform and that it will likely launch with T-Mobile in October but no later than the end of the calendar year. The launch almost entirely depends on FCC approval of the device, according to the claims, but will ideally be made public ahead of time in September.

Big Three in Talks as Apple Confirms Russian iPhone Launch for 2009

Apple has confirmed that the iPhone will become officially available in Russia in 2009, reports Prime-Tass, citing Yevgeny Butman, the chief executive of Apple's official distributor in Russia, Apple IMC, in Vedomosti. It has also been preliminarily reported that the 8 gigabyte version of the 3G iPhone, which currently retails for around US$299 in the United States, could cost up to around US$2,000 in Russia, although no official details have yet been confirmed. Each of Russia's three largest mobile operators—Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), VimpelCom and MegaFon—are in talks with Apple about selling the iPhone next year. The model has already unofficially debuted in the Russian market, with around 470,000 having been privately imported and unlocked to work on any mobile network.
