Vienna. Eugen Jesser, the director and president of the world-famous Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boy’s Choir), has died on Sunday, aged 62. Jesser was a member of the choir as a boy and became president in 2001. He had been a member of the Federal Ministry for Education since 1970, and directed the department for out-of-school youth education since 1992. He was awarded the Great Decoration of the Republic of Austria, and of the City of Vienna. He was also awarded the Austrian Medal for Science and Art 1st Class. In his time as President of the Boy's Choir, he oversaw the refurbishment of the Palais Augarten, where the Choir is headquartered.
