How to convert iTunes music to MP3

The music files you purchased from iTunes store are under DRM protection. You cannot play them on your own mobile devices other than iPod and iPhone. You cannot convert the DRM protected music files to MP3 or WMA directly with iTunes media player, either. However you can burn the protected music files to CD-R or CD-RW disc to make an audio CD and then use some CD ripper software to convert the audio CD track back to MP3, WAV, WMA, etc. And iTunes allows you to burn the protected music files to CD-R or CD-RW disc to make a standard audio CD. If you have only a few music files, you can use the method below:

Compact Disc Turns 26, Has a Bright Future

javipas writes "The Compact Disc was created 26 years ago, but apparently it is as healthy as 15 years ago, when computing versions of this format (CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW) made the market explode. Nowadays CD has been replaced in some segments, but not on the music industry, that continues to support it massively. The shy return of vinyl and the absence of real competitors make CD's future very bright, so it seems this birthday will not be by any means the last one we celebrate. Happy birthday!"

iTunes Royalties: Nothing Like the Old Days for Classic Acts

Kevin Maney writes: A Wall Street Journal story seems to imply that keeping songs off iTunes is the equivalent of plugging a leak. Instead of buying songs off Apple's dominant service, fans are forced to slog to a store and buy the physical CD, so CD sales are better than if an album gets released both on CD and iTunes. And since the royalties on a CD are way more than royalties on iTunes -- because, for one thing, when you buy a CD you're forced to buy all the songs on the album that otherwise suck -- artists like Kid Rock and the Eagles are making a calculation that they should run from iTunes the way you'd run from a buffalo stampede.

Aleratec's 1:3 DVD/CD Tower Publisher HLS

Sending out a CD/DVD to a duplicating service can cost hundreds of dollars—and requires a minimum order, usually in the neighborhood of several hundred copies, which is not a practical solution for most of us. Yes, there are inkjets capable of printing on pre-labeled discs, but one thing they can’t do is duplicate CDs and DVDs—and the process is limited to one disc at a time. And in this day and age, when we’re handing out discs with pictures, videos, and music like they were Halloween candy, it would really help to have some means of efficiently duplicating discs and printing labels at home, in our spare time—on the same machine. There are pricey machines that will do the job, but if you don’t mind the no-frills approach and are willing to spend under $500, then consider the Aleratec 1:3 DVD/CD Tower Publisher HLS.

Moving LVM Volumes to a Different Volume Group

"At first I tried to use a Debian Etch Live CD and an Ubuntu 8.04 Live CD to access my mdadm RAID and LVM volume groups from a Live CD but those didn’t work well. The 2.6.18 kernel in Debian Etch is too old to handle the T105 hardware. It could not get on-board gigabit ethernet working so I could not download the packages I needed to get mdadm and lvm working."

The PS3 is More Than a Toy With Fedora

"By contrast, the PS3 has had support for running Linux since before it was released, and Sony has made support code and packages widely available. The "Cell addons" CD released around the system's launch included direct support for Fedora 5 and 6, but it also provided all the files needed for other distributions to develop PS3 ports. As a result, Fedora 7 simply works on the PS3 without the need for a separate CD, although you still need to use the Sony downloads to install the bootloader. The add-on software CD (see Resources) continues to get updates with new kernel versions."

Intersil's CD/MP3 Stereo 2:1 Multiplexer

Intersil Corporation has developed the optimal CD/MP3 stereo 2:1 multiplexer designed to deliver low distortion audio source or load selector solutions with very high signal muting. The Intersil ISL54405 is a single supply, bidirectional, dual single-pole/double-throw (SPDT) analog switch featuring distortion and off-Isolation capabilities into all load types. It is designed to pass analog signals that are positive and negative with respect to ground, with inputs that accommodate ground referenced signals up to 2VRMS, while operating from a single 3.3V or 5V DC supply. The ISL54405 saves cost by eliminating the negative supply and the associated components typically used for amplifier output signal muting. The device also consumes minimal power, reducing the size and heat typical of traditional designs.
