Dennis Byron says the deal for Progress Software to acquire Iona Technologies means little to the independent middleware market. Byron believes that market had already collapsed on itself. In addition, he doesn't see a place for Iona's open source strategy underneath the Progress umbrella.

Irina Baronova, an international ballet star who was one of three celebrated prodigies known as the "baby ballerinas" after George Balanchine discovered them in Paris in the 1930s, died Saturday at her home in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia. She was 89.
