As Metal Gear Solid 4 approaches release, Sony and Konami have released definitive details about two previously mentioned console bundles, with some apparent tradeoffs between them. Crave reports that the limited edition gunmetal grey 40GB model features the same downside as the standard version, in that it can not play Playstation 2 game titles. The special edition will, however, come with a soundtrack and a Blu-ray disc with a behind-the-scenes documentary.

Carbon nanotube bundles could be used to extend the main span of suspension bridges by up to three times, according to new work by researchers in Italy. Nicola Pugno and Alberto Carpinteri of Turin Polytechnic have calculated that the main span of the Messina bridge – which joins Sicily to mainland Italy – could be increased to more than 6 km from a possible 2 km today. The result might also allow "superbridges" to be built in the future at reduced cost, say the researchers.

(Nanowerk Spotlight) Synthesized carbon nanotubes, especially single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), are in the form of bundles with other impurities such as catalyst particles and amorphous carbon debris. In order to be useful for many types of applications, for instance in nanoelectronic devices or biomedical applications, SWCNTs need to be purified and dispersed into individual nanotubes. One method to do this is by surfactant stabilization of the hydrophobic nanotube surface, which overcomes the van der Waals forces among the nanotubes and results in suspensions of individual SWCNTs.
