San Jose, CA. - Oct. 28, 2008 - Joymax, an independent developer and publisher of interactive entertainment for the global market, today announced an exclusive Halloween event for the historical fantasy MMORPG Silkroad Online. Players can show off their ghoulish sides by obtaining jewel boxes to trade for Witch or Wizard costumes and accessories. These jewel boxes are dropped from monsters, and players can exchange these boxes with NPCs in order to receive these festive items. Gifts will be given at random, and players can make as many exchanges as they wish in order to complete their looks. The Halloween event will come to a close on November 11th, so be sure to join the party before it all fades away!

RobotsDinner writes "In what sounds like a dystopian sci-fi plot, the Home Office has made public plans to outfit the country's Internet with upstream data recorders to log pretty much everything that passes through. 'Under Government plans to monitor internet traffic, raw data would be collected and stored by the black boxes before being transferred to a giant central database. The vision was outlined at a meeting between officials from the Home Office and Internet Service Providers earlier this week.'"

Asus has not so surprisingly decided to recall the Eee Box B202 mini PCs infested with the W32/Usbalex worm in Japan. The virus-y boxes are confined to the land of Gojira, since it was only on Eee PCs tailored for the Japanese market. The numbers in play are pretty sad, actually: Asus built a wimpy 4,500 boxes for Japan and only sold 300, so the damage is limited to a few unlucky saps, who will never buy Asus again. [Inquirer]

A couple weeks ago, Apple made its grand entrance into our Shipping Hall of Shame by sending out its new, less horrifically hazardous USB power adapter for the iPhone 3G in these monstrous boxes, despite their huge emphasis lately on going green. All those boxes really add up too, since Apple recalled every single adapter. The iPhone Blog reports that they're now shipping them in much tinier, more efficient padded envelopes.

Stephen Chapman, the About.com JavaScript Guide, has written a great form script to create a drop-down menu out of a text field - a combo box. This form field is really useful if you want to provide specific answers for your most common answers, but also provide a text box for the less common answers. The example he gives is states in a country. In his form, if you're from Australia, you can choose your state from his drop-down menu, but if you're not from Oz, you can still write in your state (province) in the text field. A pretty cool and useful script.
