Chelsea went back to the top of the Premier League with a comfortable win over rock-bottom West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea went back to the top of the Premier League with a comfortable win over rock-bottom West Brom at Stamford Bridge. First-half goals from Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard gave Chelsea their first home league win in four games. The Blues took just three minutes to go in front with Drogba, making his first league appearance since the end of September, heading home a cross from Joe Cole. It was the Ivorian's second goal of the season and his first in the Barclays Premier League this term. In the ninth minute Lampard tried his luck with a 35-yard free-kick which Albion keeper Scott Carson did well to hold at the first attempt. Drogba's goal allowed Chelsea the luxury of playing without the nervousness that had accompanied their last three league games at the Bridge.

Satyam Ignites Innovation From The Bottom Up

Unlike its rivals, Satyam has seeded its Innovation Network from the inside out, by first unleashing the entrepreneurial talent of its 50,000 employees. Satyam’s grassroots “intrapreneurship” initiative is part of a larger corporate experiment to promote distributed leadership by empowering Satyam’s business units and support functions to operate as independent enterprises. As such, Satyam today boasts a loosely coupled federation of 2,000 intrapreneurs — ranging from alliance managers to client engagement teams to HR execs. These intrapreneurs’ innovations lead to new technologies, processes, and even business models that drive value for Satyam as well as its customers and partners. Rival IT vendors must emulate Satyam by unleashing and harnessing their firms’ grassroots creative energy.

Investigating potential nanotechnology risks at the bottom of the food chain

(Nanowerk Spotlight) The flurry of recent announcements regarding reports, international cooperations, and new research activities that deal with the potential risks of manufactured nanomaterials is a clear indication that the field of nanotoxicology is gaining momentum – and not too soon. While there still is no coherent international approach to determining if and what risks are posed by what kind of nanotechnology materials, individual research groups are picking certain areas of concern and forge ahead with – often highly specific – toxicology studies.

Blog Buzz: Rod Blagojevich, Welcome to Rock Bottom, Meet Larry Craig

Today we spell Tuesday with an S. And then a C. And then an A . . . N . . . D . . . A . . . L. This after the arrest of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich today on corruption charges. Among the charges is an intent to sell Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder. Steve Benen notes at Political Animal that this makes four of the last five Illinois governors who have been officially charged with a crime. Many bloggers were simply stunned. Some demanded Blagojevich's immediate resignation, while others speculated on the implications this will have for Obama. Politico's Ben Smith passes along a tip that Rahm Immanuel turned Blagojevich in after the governor "reached out" to Rahm. When authorities let Blagojevich know they were coming for him this morning, he apparently asked, "Is this a joke?" If only.

Morning Movers 1/06: Indevus Pharmaceuticals (IDEV) Soars On Buyout, Garmin (GRMN) Lower on Downgrade

An afternoon of turgid and virtually entertainment free football at White Hart Lane saw Everton return north with all three points and Spurs drop to 16th place with only goal difference keeping us out of the bottom three.

Near the beginning of last season (and two Tottenham managers ago) Everton also won at WHL but what a contrast that game was to this. On that occasion Arteta made great use of the space in midfield to open us up with some fine passing and give the anti-Jol movement in the boardroom a big shove in the direction of southern Spain. This time though there was more space in the away section than there was on the field as the clumps of empty seats in the corner of the Park Lane watched a well organised five man blue midfield successfully stifle any attempts by us to get Lennon or Bentley into positions to attack the defence directly.

Undergraduate research journal supports science writing on campus

Publish or perish” is the bottom line of most scientific careers. Yet today’s science degrees tend to produce graduates lacking the writing skills to articulate their research findings. The McGill Student Undergraduate Research Journal (mSURJ) hopes to make up for this weakness.
