There are a number of blog search tools out there, and some have become controversial for their human-powered curator process and simplistic style. But such an approach has its merits when you look at the broad appeal of blog recommendations and curated suggestions. There are those end users that would like to be able to find blog content that’s not technology related, and doesn’t come from self-promotional platforms that are often found on some memes and other blog search engines.

I blogged in June that to my surprise I had found I was the site administrator for travel-getaways.com, which was pulling content from a legitimate travel site. I was surprised because I'd never heard of this domain.

When I blogged Google's launch of Lively, I mentioned several similar systems including Imvu, But I did notice a couple of comments to posts on other blogs to the effect that Google hired one of Imvu's co-founders to help it produce its knock-off. Was this true?

The other day I blogged about how the Foxconn G33M-S motherboard didnt play nicely with Linux because it broke ACPI support. Well, as it turns out the problem isnt a Foxconn one but its down to American Megatrends (AMI) having shipped a defective BIOS. Also, as it turns out, other boards are also affected.

The day I became a story on page one of the Hindustan Times (Blogged in India, between covers in Pakistan), people looked at me, looked away, and then looked again. What kicks I got. Current friends demanded a treat, forgotten friends demanded to meet, neighbours congratulated and strangers called from Gorakhpur and Buffalo (my phone number is listed on my blog). But these moments of glory are fleeting. The day dies, the daily is dumped, and that day’s story becomes yesterday’s headline. Life chugs back to anonymity and I’m back in the darkness, groping to keep the machine running — five blogs, one day-job and five bosses in that day-job to take care of.

It’s not surprising that I managed to get Debian Linux running on the orange iMac I blogged about the other day. Since *buntu is based on Debian, this would seem to be a no-brainer. However, what is of note is the easy text-based install (very similar to Ubuntu’s alternate CD install, but with a much shorter download time and better support for installation of most features over the Internet (the normal CD is only about a quarter gig; everything else is downloaded using apt automatically during install).
