Now that the brouhaha over the iPhone 3G has calmed down, users have now to deal with the problem of low battery life so typical of a device packed with Apps and with 3G connectivity. We have earlier dealt with ways and means of increasing the battery life of the iPhone 3G. For those of you for whom the tips to expand the iPhone 3G battery life appears unexciting, they are left with no other option other than recharging the battery as frequently as possible. To make the recharging process easier you could try the Solar Powered cases for the iPhone 3G. The inbuilt 1500mAh case battery can provide one full charge to the iPhone, the case battery in turn being recharged through the solar panel mounted on the front of the case or in case of non-availability of sunlight via mini USB.

It appears that not telling people about your battery replacement plan prior to them buying the product is not quite the same as really, really poor battery life. Unlike the iPod battery lawsuit, which eventually led to an out-of-court settlement, this one has been thrown out of court.

nerdyH writes "Dell is preparing to ship two enterprise-oriented Windows Vista notebooks with an interesting feature — a built-in TI OMAP (smartphone) processor that can power instantly into Linux. The 'Latitude ON' feature is said to offer 'multi-day' battery life, while letting users access email, the web, contacts, calendar, and so on, using the notebook's full-size screen and keyboard. I wonder if someday we'll just be able to plug our phones into our laptops, switching to the phone's processor when we need to save battery life? Or, maybe x86 will just get a lot more power-efficient. Speaking at MontaVista's Vision event today, OLPC spokesperson and longtime kernel hacker Deepak Saxena said the project is aiming for 10-20 hours of battery life during active use, on existing hardware (AMD Geode LX800 clocked at 500MHz, with 1GB of Fl

PSP Fanboy just learned that Sony's discontinuing their 2200mAh PSP battery pack, an official aftermarket addon that would allow you to game for up to 12 hours or so. What's the deal? We're not sure, but someone from Sony said they're looking at other ways to "service the consumer," which might say to us that they're looking at ways to extend battery life without making the back of the PSP bulge out in an unseemly manner. And just when we learned how to hack your PSP for homebrew apps too. [PSP Fanboy]

A lawsuit against Apple and AT&T over the limited life of the iPhone's non-user-replaceable battery has been dismissed. US District Judge Matthew Kennelly said in a summary judgment issued this week that Apple disclosed right on the outside of the iPhone box that the battery has "limited recharge cycles" and may eventually need to be replaced by a service provider. Therefore, no jury could take the case seriously and therefore it was dropped.

The PSP 3000 will have a brighter LCD with a wider color gamut and 5 times the contrast ratio of the PSP 2000. From the shots we've seen, it blows the old screen away—and that screen was already pretty decent. There is, of course, a catch. And that catch is that the PSP will lose somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes of battery life compared to the old PSP, putting its playtime to 3 1/2 to 4 hours. But to compensate, Sony will be rereleasing the just-discontinued PSP extended battery to the market which should still provide 8-10 hours of play. [Gamespot via Maxconsole]
