Internet review: Strong Bad Emails

Strong Bad is an animated Mexican wrestler with boxing gloves for hands and the undoubted star of surreal cartoon site Homestar Runner. Assisted by a strangely shaped animal-of-questionable-species and hindered by his high-pitched, fragile sister, Strong Bad's main spot is answering reader's emails - of which there are hundreds to happily plough through if you've not been here before. Most recently he was asked to perform a magic trick and shared his thoughts on "moneygicians" - people who blow their life savings on "gaze mazing" props - and their strange sub-category, "flowy sleeved moneygicians". Like South Park and Modern Toss, Strong Bad isn't exactly beautiful to look at but he's relentlessly funny.

Strong Bad Episode 1 Hits the WiiWare Shop

Nintendo has added a new title to their WiiWare shop, Strong Bad Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner from developer Telltale Games. The new title features the infamous boxing-glove-adorned character in the first of five installments of Telltale's "Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People". "The point-and-click adventure game stars Strong Bad, the lucha libre mask-wearing character from web cartoon series Homestar Runner. Players can create "Teen Girl Squad" comics, play a retro-styled minigame titled Snake Boxer 5, and send pictures and messages to their friends through the Wii's message board system." In addition to the new title two classic titles have also been added for virtual console, Break In, and Star Parodier.

Review: Battlefield: Bad Company Xbox 360 game

The bad company in question here is a squad of misfits – these aren't the classy, committed, highly trained troops to be found in most war games. That, along with the superlative visuals and sound effects, lends Bad Company a patina of reality that's missing from most of the competition.

Punish bad art with the same ferocity as bad behaviour

Michael Stone's claim that his actions constituted 'performance art' is an attempt to treat the legal system to a belated dose of postmodernism

Even for Google, the money party is over

During yesterday's huge market sell-off, where the Dow dropped nearly 679 points, Google's shares also took a beating, dropping 2.7% to just 328.98. (So much for rock-bottom at $381 per share.) Buried in the bad news of the day, however, was the fact that the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) released its online ad market numbers for the first half of 2008. While they don't look bad, they don't look pretty either. For the past five years, the growth in online advertising has been strong, fueling investments in Web services and technology, and helping cash-flush Google enter new markets, like mobile phones with its Android OS. But if Google's cash cow of search advertising begins to weaken, so will the rest of its business. How well can a company like Google weather these bad economic times?

Even MORE gossip from our X Factor encounter!

heatworld loved our morning coffee with the X Factor lot today – and kept our ears to the ground for all the gossip… which we can now bring you even more of! JLS couldn’t stop singing (and were crooning away to everyone who’d listen), but thankfully, they’re actually very good. Girlband and Bad Lashes, after a bit of coaxing, also wheeled out some tunes including Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy, which, again, was note-perfect. We were definitely impressed. But Girlband were quick to point out they were “better than Bad Lashes”. Ooh! Handbags at dawn! Bad Lashes, however, refused to be drawn on the matter, so we’ll just have to wait and see. JLS talked about their love for (and we quote) “latina goddess” Ruth and her impromptu salsa lessons with Ortise, but while Ruth admits the boys are “gorgeous”, she’s still very much

Review: Strong Bad Episode I

Strong Bad will happily describe the objects around him, but any more significant interaction is often limited to the one obscure instance that will advance the plot.

Blog cafe : New agency, bad idea

A new Resolution Trust Company to hold bad assets would perform far worse than the old RTC that was used in the Savings and Loan crisis. To understand why, consider how assets are put into each outfit. In the old RTC, the assets of failed savings and loans (S&Ls) were put into RTC. If there was a question about the quality of an asset, the decision was made by government regulators as they evaluated the capital of the S&L. The S&Ls themselves didnt have any say about what went into RTC. If the regulators thought the total assets of the S&L were not worth much, then everything went into RTC. One of the reasons that RTC didnt cost as much as we once feared was that regulators were very conservative. They closed down some institutions that could have survived.

Nvidia 55nm Parts Are Bad Too

JagsLive sends in a story (in somewhat inflammatory prose) from The Inquirer, which links to many others; they have been following developments in the alleged NVidia quality "fiasco" for some time. "Hot on the heels of its denials that anything is wrong with the G92 and G94s comes another PCN [Product Change Notification] that shows the G92s and G92b are being changed for no reason. Yup, the problems that are plaguing G84 and G86 are the same that affect seemingly all 65nm and now 55nm NVidia parts... It is hard to overstate how bad this is. Basically every 65nm and 55nm NVidia part appears to be defective... We are hearing of early failure rates in the teens percent for 8800GTs and far higher for 9600GTs... To make matters worse, NVidia has a mound of unsold defective parts that they are going to bleed out into the channel along side of

Nikon D90 Video Tests: The Good, The Bad and the Shaky

Some of you are thrilled that the age of video on DSLRs is here; some of you are surprisingly pissed off about it. Truth is, the 720p video coming from the Nikon D90 can look amazing, but in some ways it can't replace even the cheapest cams when it comes to chasing kids and pets around. The good news is that you can use sweet DSLR lenses—in this case, a trio of Nikkors—for a cinematic look and feel. The bad news is, there's no autofocus in video mode. It's a bitch, but it forces you to think more like a filmmaker and less like a hockey mom. Check out the video above, then drop down for some issues and tips we've sorted out so far. Update: Still framegrabs from the actual video below.
