Axis Communications recently announced that the Art Institute of Chicago is using Axis network cameras to monitor the museum’s approximately 1 million square feet for the safety of its visitors and art holdings.

Robots: Innovations in energy and data supply

igus® had several new developments in power and data supply for robotic equipment on show at the "Automatica" in Munich. The company has developed a new universal module called "Triflex RS", specifically for robotic applications in very cramped conditions. The multi-axis robotic energy chain "Triflex® RS" is always guided parallel and close to the robot arm, preventing a loop forming or cables becoming strained at the robot head. The low-profile module can be mounted directly to the existing fastening points on the robot. The moving end of energy chain is attached to the sixth axis with a mounting bracket. This system allows general movements, so no specific programming is required. Thanks to its compact design, the system can even be used if there is a valve cluster or distributor box on the third axis.

Axis, Bosch and Sony Announce Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF)

CHELMSFORD, Mass.-- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- In May 2008, Axis Communications, Bosch Security Systems and Sony Corporation announced their cooperation to create a global open forum for the development of a standard network interface for network video products. Today the forum is introduced as ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum). By creating an independent, non-profit organization the three founding members ensure the openness needed to develop an open industry standard. Interested parties may register to participate via the web site at www.onvif.org. The site provides information about the benefits of a global standard and answers to frequently asked questions.

"War On Terror" Board Game Confiscated In UK

An anonymous reader writes "The board game The War On Terror is a satirical game in which George Bush's 'Axis of Evil' is reduced to a spinner in the middle of the board, which determines which player is designated a terrorist state. That person then has to wear a balaclava (included in the box set) with the word 'Evil' stitched onto it. Kent police said they had confiscated the game because the balaclava 'could be used to conceal someone's identity or could be used in the course of a criminal act.' Balaclavas are freely sold all over the place in the area." Schneier has blogged this stupidity, of course.

TUAW also links to a YouTube video which shows a performer demonstrating the iPhone instrument."
