International Day for Biological Diversity

''This year again, the International Day for Biological Diversity reminds us of the alarming condition of biodiversity in our cities and countryside. The worsening state of our planet on a day-to-day basis is frightening and Local and regional authorities cannot ignore the threats which weigh on all our essential needs'' expressed Gaye Doganoglu, Chair of the Committee on Sustainable Development of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities and Willy Borsus, Rapporteur on urban biodiversity. They invited European local and regional authorities to sign up massively to the Bonn Call for Action on Cities and Biodiversity which is being launched on 28 May in Bonn, Germany at the Mayors Conference, a parallel event to the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD).

The move has been prompted by a recent change in Swedish law, allowing the authorities to snoop on network traffic. This will be a boon to filesharers and anyone else concerned about authorities and trade groups' recent moves towards 'policing' network traffic at the ISP level."
