Art takes over Michigans first state prison

On December 15th, 2007, Brittney Laflamme, artist, her husband, Patrick, and their son, Etienne, moved into the Armory Artswalk Apartments in Armory Arts Village, a mixed-use creativity focused neighborhood developed on the site of the 19th century Jackson State Prison in Jackson, Michigan. They were the first artists to move into one of the 62 apartments, a re-use of three of the historic stone and brick prison buildings. “We don’t mind the bars on the windows,” she said looking at the windows of their home as Etienne showed us his two kittens. “We love it here.”

Cezanne And Beyond Exhibited At Philadelphia Museum

In 1907, the French painter Paul Cezanne's posthumous retrospective astonished younger artists, accelerating the experimentation of European modernism. Cezanne (1839-1906) became for Henri Matisse "a benevolent god of painting," and for Pablo Picasso "my one and only master." Cezanne's inclusion in the Armory Show in New York in 1913 also offered American artists a new direction. The exhibition will be on view from February 26, 2009 to May 2009.
