Sony’s VPL-EX50 delivers consistently bright images of up to 2500 ANSI lumens. Colours aren’t as rich as a good home theatre projector, but the VPL-EX50 isn’t designed for DVD and Blu-Ray playback (4:3 native aspect ratio and 900:1 contrast ratio aren’t great assets). Sharpness is fantastic, and its features are well conceived, making the VPL-EX50 an excellent projector for use in small to medium-sized venues. The front-inclined design helps achieves optimal image placement, and a short throw distance is perfect if space is limited. As a bonus, the new E-series projector is also easy to maintain, with a long-life filter that is timed to coincide with when the lamp needs to be replaced (around 3000 hours), reducing the number of maintenance sessions required.

(Review) - After the launch of its Zen line of compact music players, Creative has announced another contender to take on Apple’s value-oriented iPod music player. The new checkered design is interesting, but we just aren’t too fond of it. It looks too amateur, and frankly, we expected better from Creative. Sure, other Zen music players aren’t exactly Oscars worthy in design either, but we liked them better, if for nothing else but their simplicity, than Mosaic.

Their new Mobile Reader for BlackBerry drops the entire paper for free, constantly updated, right to your phone in an interface that actually works. Bedsprings aren't often found in biology. Now, chemists have succeeded in making a layer of tiny protein coils attached to a surface, much like miniature bedsprings in a frame. This thin film made of stable and very pure helices can help researchers develop molecular electronics or solar cells, or to divine the biology of proteins.

Humans aren't the only ones who benefit from artificial (and often robotic) advances in high-tech medicine. Kangaroos, dolphins, birds and even elephants have all received artificial parts. Scientists involved in these efforts believe outfitting disabled animals with prosthetics can maintain biodiversity and help save endangered species. Here are the tales of three lucky patients from the other kingdom.

There aren't many websites that can be traced to a "specially marked box of Fruity Pebbles." Actually, there's probably only one--Swell3D.com. It all started for Sean Gleeson when his two pre-teen daughters started asking for that cereal box with the 3D artwork on it. He couldn't find it! Improvising, he set out to create some 3D imagery on his own. With the girls' help he made some dorky looking red and blue 3D glasses and looked at artwork he'd drawn on his computer.

There aren’t many independent flashguns around today, compared to the 1970s and 1980s when names such as Cobra, Vivitar and Soligor reared large in the classified ads. Nissin is another example, having recently launched a series of digital-compatible flashguns. The Di622 is the flagship model, and is available for Nikon iTTL and and Canon E-TTL II equipped cameras.
