Online auction house eBay Inc. said yesterday that its second-quarter profit jumped 22 per cent, as the company enjoyed strong growth in its e-commerce sites and its PayPal payments service. But eBay's outlook for the current quarter was softer than analysts had been forecasting, and the company's shares fell in after-hours trading after closing up $1.21 at $28.10. EBay earned $460-million, or 35 cents a share, compared with $376-million, or 27 cents, in the year-ago quarter. Excluding certain items, eBay earned 43 cents a share. That beat Wall Street's forecast for 41 cents a share. EBay's revenue rose 20 per cent to $2.2-billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had been looking for $2.17-billion. EBay expects third-quarter earnings of 30 cents to 32 cents a share, or 39 cents to 41 cents a share on an adjusted basis, and $2.

But because anyone is free to obtain the iPhone SDK by signing up for it, Apple is essentially branding publicly available information as confidential. This 'puzzling contradiction' is the 'antithesis of the developer-friendly Apple Developer Connection' on which the iPhone SDK program is based, Yager contends. 'You'll see arguments from armchair legal analysts that the iPhone developer Agreements won't stand up in court — but those analysts certainly won't stand up in court on your behalf.

McAfee Inc. (MFE) opened at 34.60. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 34.29 and a high of 35.00. MFE is now trading at 34.81, up 2.06 (5.95%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 41.66 in October and set its 52 week low of 27.80 in January. MFE slipped at the end of 2007, but has moved to the upside since the beginning of this year. Security software maker McAfee announced yesterday evening its second-quarter profit dipped to $47.8 million, hurt by hefty charges and a legal settlement. The company posted earnings of 52 cents per share, while analysts forecast earnings of 45 cents per share. Revenue climbed to $396.8 million, just above analysts' view for $369.1 million in sales. Technical indicators for the stock are bearish and steady while S&P gives MFE a neutral 3 STARS (out of 5) hold rating.
