American Airlines Settles Trademark Infringement Lawsuit With Google

July 18, 2008 (FinancialWire) American Airlines Inc., a subsidiary of AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) have settled a trademark-infringement lawsuit by the carrier against the search engine. Terms of the dismissal were not disclosed in court records. In the judgment issued Thursday, U.S. District District Court Judge John McBryde said American will recover nothing from Google. The case centered on sponsored links that Google lists next to search results that it provides to its users. American claimed this practice violates its trademarks when a keyword search is done using the airline s trademarks, such as its name. Shares of AMR Corp. rose $1.09, or 18.73 percent, to close at $6.91, while shares of Google fell $2.16 to close at $533.

American Airlines Inc. and Google Inc. have settled a trademark-infringment lawsuit by the carrier against the search engine. In the judgment, U.S. District District Court Judge John McBryde said Fort Worth-based American will "recover nothing" from Google, which is based in California.

May 23, 2008 - According to robotic companies, new orders sold to North American manufacturers fell 17% in 1st quarter of 2008 from same quarter in 2007, but revenue rose 5%. However, orders to non-automotive companies jumped 36%. Total of 3,828 robots valued at $288.1 million were sold in opening quarter by North American based robotics companies. Ina Dews of Elgin, Illinois, recently donated three quilts made by African-American women to the Illinois State Museum. These are the only African American-made quilts in the Museum’s collections. Ms.Dews, a well-known quilt maker, came to Springfield to make this donation. She presented a quilt she fondly calls “Puffs,” which is the second quilt that she stitched when she was fifteen.

10th Pacific Arts Festival officially opened in American Samoa.

BEIJING On Monday, Beijing police and representatives from the AFI (American Film Institute) confiscated hundreds of pirated DVDs of American TV series from a store in Chaoyang district of Beijing. Police held the storeowner for investigation, the World Journal reports. According to the police, AFI holds the copyright to those TV series and more and more the police are inviting their reps to join them on such raids, so they can later testify. AFI representatives say that almost all DVDs of American TV series on the market in China are pirated copies.

American artist federation reaches agreement with trade association

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) has reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year primetime television contract with the trade association representing the largest production companies, AFTRA President Roberta Reardon announced on Wednesday.
