Honey is still on the mend and is doing really well. She's had the staples out of her leg, the vet is happy with how it feels and she seems to be able to walk OK although she isn't allowed to do much of that. She finishes her "cage rest" next week so I'll get my broody cage back. She will then be allowed out but confined to one (large) room to minimise jumping etc. After a week I will give her the run of my part of the house then a couple of weeks later she will get to see the outside world again.

Google’s photo storing app Picasa Web Albums had a bit of a privacy vulnerability. When you create an unlisted album to send to friends, you’ll usually not expect the URL to get out to non-friends – that’s why Google included an authentication key parameter in the URL so it’s not possible to quickly guess the address (they didn’t in the beginning, which allowed you to e.g. see Larry Page’s unlisted album, but Google were later convinced it makes sense). However, Google allowed outgoing links in comments to photos of those unlisted albums. When you entered e.g. “Great photo, also see http://example.com” as a comment just a while ago, Google would automatically create a direct link to Example.com. As you know if you’re a webmaster, when someone clicks such a direct link – i.

andy1307 writes with a Washington Post story giving details of Department of Homeland Security policies for border searches of laptops and other electronic devices (as well as papers). (We have been discussing border searches for a while now.) DHS says such procedures have long been in place but were "disclosed last month because of public interest in the matter," according to the article. Here is a link to the policy (PDF, 5 pages). "Federal agents may take a traveler's laptop or other electronic device to an off-site location for an unspecified period of time without any suspicion of wrongdoing, as part of border search policies the Department of Homeland Security recently disclosed. Also, officials may share copies of the laptop's contents with other agencies and private entities for language translation, data decryption, or other reas

Earlier this week the cable television industry received some good news when a court overturned a previous ruling that had forbidden Cablevision from deploying network DVR. The battle is far from over; additional court review is necessary to debate the issue of how network DVR would threaten copyright laws. However, if the courts do decide that cable companies can move forward with this service, Time Warner Cable will be on board. Much of the underlying technology is already in place so Time Warner believes that it would be possible to deploy network DVR fairly quickly once approval comes from the courts.
