Publicis Forms Open Source Ad Network; Partners With AOL, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft

imageParis-based ad holding company Publicis Groupe has formed an ad network relying on all four of the major ad serving systems run by Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), Google/DoubleClick, Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) and AOL’s Platform-A (NYSE: TWX). While not that unusual, since most agencies work with those systems anyway, Publicis wants to formally identify the relationships it has with these companies and how it plans to tightly coordinate its campaigns across these platforms.

Medialets Ad Network First For iPhone Platform, Will Throw Ads Into Free Apps

There are already a ton of free apps in the store (134 to be exact), but ad startup Medialets is hoping to increase that number by providing a platform-wide ad network so developers can easily launch ad-supported free apps. Revenue will be split between devs and Medialets, with none apparently going to Apple (MobileBurn is reporting that Medialets's CEO is buds with Jobs from the NEXT days and has the capo's blessing) . Nobody has quite figured out the mobile advertising game on a large enough scale to do anything big, and having your pretty iPhone apps marred with Busted T's creative might be less than ideal, so it will be interesting to see how many developers jump aboard. Latest iTunes ad debuts featuring Coldplay

Apple reuses sets from Star Trek TNG for latest iTunes ad.Last night, my mom forced me to watch American Idol. Though the show is quite popular, last night's episode was an uncomfortable reminder of how much I generally dislike pop music. Though I was hoping to at least catch the latest Get a Mac ad, Apple instead debuted a new iTunes ad.

Google rebrands DoubleClick's affiliate ad program

JotSpot became Google Sites, Writely became Google Docs, Picasa might become Google Photos. And as of this week, DoubleClick's Performics affiliate ad network has become the Google Affiliate Network as part of Google's $3.1 billion acquisition of the ad firm. The premise remains the same: publishers get a commission when someone not only clicks on their ad, but then goes on to buy something.

Google Should Give You Some of Its Ad Revenue

Here’s a link to a Marketplace radio commentary that aired yesterday in which I argue that search engines should give you a cut of their ad revenue when you click through on an ad. Microsoft’s cashback system pays you if you click through and buy. But just the act of consuming the ad should have some value even if you don’t buy.

Notes from the (gaming) mediascape: Sony makes ad-friendly moves on PS3

Sony's Playstation 3 recently opened up the gaming platform to brands looking for dynamic in-game advertising opps. The console is part of a new two-year deal between New York-HQ'd in-game ad network IGA Worldwide and publisher Electronic Arts. While Microsoft's Xbox has integrated in-game ads from its Massive Network for a few years now, this deal is Sony's first with an in-game ad network. The worldwide in-game ad industry is expected to grow 1,150% to $971.3 million between 2006 and 2011, according to the Yankee Group.

Google will open its ad network so certified partners can serve advertisements and track ad data--a move designed to make it easier for advertisers to run campaigns across multiple companies' networks.

Google Ad Deal: 'Free Money' for Yahoo?

Now that the tech industry has had a few days to digest the blockbuster ad deal that Yahoo signed with Google, numerous commentators have declared it a death knell for Yahoo's search-ad business.

Online ad offers baby for $10,000

A B.C. grandmother was browsing the popular classifieds website Craigslist last Friday when she came across the shocking ad that prompted her to call police. "A new baby girl, seven days old, healthy and very cute," read the ad. "Can't afford and unexpected. Looking for a good home. Please call ASAP."

Senate Grills 'Wiretapping' Ad Firm

The U.S. government has never seemed sure whether it views data collection by online advertisers as a healthy business driver for the Internet, or a looming privacy threat needing regulation. But despite hauling Web ad giants like Google, Microsoft, and Facebook before a Senate Commerce Committee hearing Wednesday, the Senator chairing the hearing seemed to have only made up his mind about one lesser-known online ad firm: Redwood, Calif.-based NebuAd.

Police said yesterday that the mother told them the ad was a joke but an investigation has been launched into possible child trafficking. No offers were made for the child in the two hours 30 minutes the ad was posted.
