Unlocking iPhone 3Gs--the Vietnamese way

The obstacle in question: the iPhone 3G. Since its launch, it has proven a much tougher nut to crack than the original iPhone. Without a viable software-based unlock solution, the only way to make the phone work with any GSM carrier has been the use of a proxy SIM. Put this piece of very thin circuitboard in the iPhone 3G atop the carrier's SIM, and you can make calls and text on a new network.

Backup iPhone Battery Good for Hours of Power

iPhone 3Gs are known for running out of battery power at inopportune times. Given the rate he uses his, reviewer Bob LeVitus is all too familiar with the situation. A backup power solution from RichardSolo.com is good for hours of extra uses between charges. It also has a smart way of recharging both itself and the iPhone, he writes.

Microsoft Ignores Looming iPhone and Android Threat

"Microsoft has positioned Windows Mobile quite nicely in the enterprise but it seems these days that the buzz is in the consumer space. Apple's recent revelations that they've sold 6.8 million iPhone 3Gs in a quarter and the release of the first Android phone have moved the attention squarely into the consumer space. In a recent interview by Techradar the business lead for Microsoft Windows in the UK, John Curran, stated that Microsoft isn't worried about either competitor."

Earnings: Rogers Profits Up 84 Percent On Strong iPhone Sales

imageAT&T isn’t the only carrier shining in the afterglow of the iPhone. Canada’s Rogers reported an 84 percent jump in profits, thanks largely to strong iPhone sales and subscriber growth. The company sold about 255,000 iPhone 3Gs during the last quarter and about half of them were sold to new subscribers. Although the carrier is selling the device at a comparable price point, Rogers’ earnings aren’t being affected by iPhone subsidies as much as they are at AT&T (NYSE: T). That’s not to say it isn’t impacting the bottom line: “The high upfront costs associated with adding iPhone subscribers so rapidly is an investment made to obtain customers with significantly higher than average revenue per user” for years to come, the company said.
