Every year NASA publishes a new edition of their Spinoff magazine, a periodical that outlines NASA-based technologies that have disseminated into everyday devices, improving our lives beyond giving us some nifty new desktop wallpapers. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Spinoff, and to celebrate, NASA has created a "best of" list (that we pasted after the jump). Columbia Commercial Bancorp Reports Third Quarter 2008 Earnings

Columbia Commercial Bancorp (OTCBB: CLBC), a single bank financial holding company for Columbia Community Bank, reports net income for third quarter 2008 of $386,874, or $0.12 per diluted share, compared to $227,988 and $899,632 for the second and first quarters of 2008, or $0.07 and $0.29 per diluted share, respectively. "Significant loan loss provisions along with margin compression throughout 2008 are the major causes for reduced earnings over the past quarters," states the Company's President and CEO, Rick A. NASA Tests Deep-Space Network Modeled On the Internet

Working as part of a NASA-wide team, engineers from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, used software called Disruption-Tolerant Networking, or DTN, to transmit dozens of space images to and from a NASA science spacecraft located about 20 million miles from Earth. NASA Updates Time for Space Shuttle Atlantis' Roll from Launch Pad

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA managers have adjusted the time for space shuttle Atlantis' rollback from Launch Pad 39A to the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday, Oct. 20, to 7 a.m. EDT. LIFE Photo Archive Going Digital

Time, inc. is already working on a LIFE.com website to put the incredible 10 million strong photo archive of LIFE magazine online in February but a new partnership with Google has placed many of these images online sooner. Google has reached a partnership agreement with LIFE that allows them to host the images as well. So far, about 2 million of the LIFE archive is online through Google with more to follow. Only about 3% of LIFE's archive has ever been published so this is a treasure trove of photographic history. In a decision that will likely have photographers adding massive numbers of inkjet cartridges to their Christmas list, the Associated Press story states that "The photos can be printed out for free as long as they aren't being used as part of an attempt to make money.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Announces Third Quarter 2008 Operating Highlights

ATLANTA, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (the Bank) today released the results for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2008. As of Sept. 30, 2008, the Bank had total assets of $213.7 billion, an increase of $24.8 billion, or 13.1 percent, from Dec. 31, 2007. This increase was primarily a result of increases in advances, federal funds sold, and held-to-maturity securities. Advances, the largest asset on the Bank's balance sheet, increased by $21.4 billion, or 15.0 percent, during this same period due to increased demand for advances during the last month of the third quarter as the Bank responded to its members' increased need for liquidity. The Bank reported a net loss of $46.1 million for the third quarter of 2008, a decrease of $179.

NASA to Discuss Hubble Anomaly and Servicing Mission Launch Delay
