European Stars Bonus Available For Disaster: Day of Crisis

"Register your interest for the title in your Club Nintendo account, and if you register the included Stars code within two weeks of the game's release you'll receive another 50 Stars on top of the 250 Stars you get with the game. However, be warned - if you keep registering your interest for several titles but fail to register the code on time, Nintendo will come round to your house and destroy your computer with their proton packs, disabling your access to Stars Bonuses."

The stars lose face and body, too!

The mags have an ax to grind this week! Check out Star's "Stars Without Makeup" and In Touch's "Hollywood's Thinnest Stars Insist, I'M NOT ANOREXIC." The only trouble is that most of the stars look pretty good without makeup and maybe we actually want Heidi Montag to get skinny enough so that when she turns to one side we can't see her. Anyway, there's juicier news in the 'zines ...

Podcast: The Life of Other Stars

Last week we looked at the complete life of the Sun, birth to death. But stars can be smaller, and stars can get much much larger. And with a change in mass, their lives change too. Let's start the clock again, and see what happens to the smallest stars in the Universe; and what happens to the largest.

This classic star trail image shows how stars move in our sky as Earth rotates. More than 150 individual one-minute digital images were stacked in Photoshop. A first-quarter moon illuminated the surrounding landscape for the duration of the exposures.

Team Records 'Music' from Stars

Scientists have recorded the sound of three stars similar to our Sun using France's Corot space telescope. A team writing in Science journal says the sounds have enabled them to get information about processes deep within stars for the first time.

Astronomers get best view yet of infant stars at feeding time

Astronomers have used ESO's Very Large Telescope Interferometer to conduct the first high resolution survey that combines spectroscopy and interferometry on intermediate-mass infant stars. They obtained a very precise view of the processes acting in the discs that feed stars as they form. These mechanisms include material infalling onto the star as well as gas being ejected, probably as a wind from the disc.

More star births than astronomers have calculated

The "birth rate" for stars is certainly not easy to determine. Distances in the universe are far too great for astronomers to be able to count all the newly formed celestial bodies with the aid of a telescope. So it is fortunate that the emerging stars give themselves away by a characteristic signal known as "H-alpha" emissions. The larger the number of stars being formed in a particular region of the firmament, the more H-alpha rays are emitted from that region.

Hubble directly observes a planet orbiting another star

This is rather significant. Here are two articles that were just posted today describing how researchers searching for planets orbiting stars other than our own sun have directly photographed such planets (up until now, the best we could do was to infer their presence based on the effects they had on their parent stars, such as making the stars "wobble" or varying their brightness when the planet passed in front of the star).

Stars Get Political: The Latest Celebrity Trend?

Stars like Madonna, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Aniston love to have opinions on stuff. They enjoy telling us civilians what to eat, who to wear, where to go, and even what to think. So it should come as no surprise that politics is the latest hot ticket in Hollywood.

Stars that Eat Dark Matter Live Longer

A recent study indicates that there are stars in the proximity of the Milky Way's core that feed on dark matter, thus prolonging their lifespan with more than a billion years. Finding them would possibly help understanding what dark matter really is and how exactly it functions.
