(PhysOrg.com) -- For astronomers, understanding what happened in the early moments of the universe could answer many questions in physics and astronomy. One possible player in the early universe is cosmic strings, which arise naturally in particle physics models. However, cosmic strings are quite strange hypothetical entities: they’re thinner than a proton, but can be as long as the universe. Cosmic strings might have formed as imperfections when the early universe was undergoing drastic phase changes.

Today we're reviewing a new power supply from Super Flower, a company that has been producing power supplies predominantly for other companies, though they also sell PSUs under their own brand. Several years back their units were a lot more common and you could find them in online shops around the globe, but their presence has been fading. However, we have reviewed a few other brands that were built by Super Flower. Super Flower was one of the first companies to introduce fans larger than 120mm in power supplies and in fact they have several patents related to this. Besides power supplies the company also offers PC cases.

Hugh Pickens writes "Traditional peak power hours — the time during the day when power demand shoots up — run from 4 pm to 7 pm when air conditioning begins to ramp up and people start heading for malls and home but utilities are now seeing another peak power problem evolve with a second surge that runs from about 8 pm to 9 pm when people head toward their big screen TVs and home computers. 'It is [not] so much a peak as it is a plateau,' says Andrew Tang, senior director of the smart energy web at Pacific Gas & Electric. '8 pm is kind of a recent phenomenon.' Providing power during the peak hours is already a costly proposition because approximately 10 percent of the existing generating capacity only gets used about 50 hours a year: Most of the time, that expensive capital equipment sits idle waiting for a crisis.

Since Forrester first started tracking where US online consumers pay bills, biller sites have always led the way. Although banks had been closing this gap over the past five years, bank bill pay growth has stalled in the past 12 months, while the number of biller site bill pay users has grown 17%. What's driving the growth? The usual suspects: ease of use, speed of payments, and availability of same-day and credit card payments. eBusiness executives at banks and credit unions will need to match the simplicity and flexibility of biller sites if they are to attract, and retain, the next generation of bill pay customers.

O2 and Carphone Warehouse are both now selling the iPhone 3G as a Pay and Go handset. If you don't want to commit to an 18 month contract you now don't have to although the upfront prices for the handset are a bit on the high side. £349.99 for the 8 Gig and £399.99 for the 16 Gig and don't get too excited, remember this phone will still be Sim locked to the O2 network and there is still no unlocking solution yet.
