Costa Rican native Franklin Chang-Diaz has been a NASA astronaut for 28 years and holds the record for the most space flights by an astronaut (seven missions amounting to 66 days in space). Chang-Diaz himself was the product of an immigrant household. In addition to being a successful astronaut, Chang-Diaz is a professor at Rice University and the University of Houston. It's no wonder he's a national hero in his native country.
