Spammers Devoted to Dad

I get about a thousand spam a day. Generally, I let it sit in my junk folder for a month or so and then delete it. This gives me a chance to go back and look through it if the need should arise. This time around, I had about 6 weeks worth, or roughly close to 50,000 of the unwanted email. So after receiving the upteenth Father's Day spam, I decided to compare the weeks leading up to Mother's Day with the weeks leading up to Father's Day. The reason? I just didn't recall seeing much Mother's Day spam and I was curious to see the numbers. The end result: at least in my inbox, Father's Day spam outpaced Mother's Day spam by 7:1. Even HGTV has gotten into the act, averaging 3 Father's Day solicitations for every 1 Mother's Day solicitation.

Google's blog provides some more information, noting, "The first Google index in 1998 already had 26 million pages, and by 2000 the Google index reached the one billion mark. Over the last eight years, we've seen a lot of big numbers about how much content is really out there. To keep up with this volume of information, our systems have come a long way since the first set of web data Google processed to answer queries. Back then, we did everything in batches: one workstation could compute the PageRank graph on 26 million pages in a couple of hours, and that set of pages would be used as Google's index for a fixed period of time. Today, Google downloads the web continuously, collecting updated page information and re-processing the entire web-l
